Ivory idea??

Hey all,
I am considering having a cue built with an ivory butt (the entire 6 to 7 inches below the wrap being ivory.)
I have two ????

Approximately how much would a piece of ivory that big cost??
Also maybe, where I could find one.

Is there any structural issues with that part of the cue being ivory.

Thanks

Some cuemakers gouge pretty hard for Ivory, but don't expect to hand over a piece of Ivory to one, and expect the cost of the cue to be the same as a non-ivory cue. There are factors not immediately apparent to be taken into account. There has been much debate about this here, a search of this forum should turn up plenty to read.
Depending on availability of a piece that long, and who does it for you, I would guess that it should add around $500 to the cost of a cue.

I would think a piece of Ivory that long is going to cost close to that $400-$500. I charge much less for Ivory Inlays, Joints and Butts than other cue makers I talk to, but if the piece cost me $500, you could figure on at least $1,000 in cost to you. I wouldn't consider that gouging. There's still work to be done and I would need to protect myself in case something happens with the Ivory while working with it.

here is one that joe callaluca did, the butt is a solid piece of ivory that was then scrimmed.
