Ivory Jiont & Buttcap Barry Szamboti For Sale

Please explain to me why this cue is worth $12,000+ dollars!

I look at AZ alot, I go to the cue show at Valleyforge...I see alot of cues.

I'm no professional or builder or anything so maybe there is a reason that I am unaware of? Special materials, special teqhnique? ??

Many cues here on AZ seem to have much more detail or decoration and sell for MUCH MUCH less.

Why so expensive?

Don't get me wrong, It is very nice, but I'm not sure it is $12,000 nice!

Please advise.

Owning a Barry cue is going to be like owning an original Picasso some day. His father was to cuemaking what Socrates was to Philosophy. Barry makes cues in the same tradition only (from what I've heard) Barry will never make the number of cues Gus did. Consider that and the fact that anything that leaves his shop is flawless. So you've got the name, the tradition, the quality and playablility. I played with a Gus and a Barry and I can comfortably say they were 2 of the best 4 cues I've ever shot with. So you've got all these factors right off the top. Now here's what makes this cue even better: Ivory joint and buttcap is fairly rare and this is the only Koa Szam I've ever seen. Thats not to say its the only one but its definitely one of the few. Collectors obviously value rarity so the price will go up for that. I doubt anyone will ever say that a Szam (Gus or Barry) is the fanciest cue they've ever seen but from a collectors standpoint, you might have a really fancy original painting by Frank Somebody that is just beautiful to look out and have a lot of detail but my less detailed, simpler Original Vincent Van Gogh is worth MUCH MUCH more.

I hope this helps explain it.

Dave

Great cue by the way. You wouldn't happen to need a kidney would you?

Thanks Sean,
You are the real collector in your Craig,Szamboti, and Hercek.

Hope all is well.

Base on my personal viewpoint
1.Ivory and ButtCap
2.4 shafts
3.Special Koa wood points
4.Like new which just refresh by Barry Work.

Maybe I set a highly price, but I also said will listen reasonable offer,Did I ??I'm not a cue dealer and have few experiment to sell cue.I think only 2 time in selling cues to USA.
Some real or seriously buyer interested this cue will PM me if I set a high price. You can see a lot of things happened in Sell/Wanted area. Somebody will be told without left sell price (Like PM me for price),but I decide to show the price I thought.
I'm work hard on my job to do all my best to collect the cues that I want.I also want to go to the cue show at Valleyforge but I don't have time cause work busy in Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company(tsmc). My majority interesting in my life is collecting custom cues.

Thanks for your advise !!:)

Hi Balance-

I was not trying to give advice, simply asking a question.

I do not think "Ivory and Buttcap, Koa points" make it worth that kind of cash, however;

Thanks for all who gave helpful answers to my question.

I was always, naively, under the impression that Gus was the top dog and Barry was kind of riding on his coat tails. (sorry to offend)

I have plenty to learn about cues and am fairly new-ish to the whole thing, so my apologies for my ignorance!

There's nothing wrong trying to get more information.. This cue might be priced high to start, that is what is throwing you off...
There is nothing more collectable then a Szamboti. Every collector trying to get their hands one them is telling you that..

The "Coat Tail" statement is more then just offending...
Barry has been making cues since 1989 and has earned every bit of his reputation for his attention to detail and his incredible playablity of his cues.
Barry has followed the tradition instilled by his father to make cues with his complete heart and soul into every cue.. Good luck trying to put a price on cues that are a labor of love..
Most people trying to buy a Barry Szamboti are buying the quality of the cue, and the quality of the Man.. There will only be one Gus Szamboti, but there will only be one Barry Szamboti Sr.
Best,
Ken Kerner
