I'd really like to try this combo. Both are always noted to giving great feedback...so to combine the two, what could someone expect?

Stupid idea or wha?

It'd be a light combo but I don't see why it can't be done on heavy forearmed cue.
You can even have a G10 collar.

The joint of a cue can be very tricky to categorize. I can't say any material makes a whole lot of difference as a joint pin or collar. So long as it locks the shaft to the butt, then it's good.

I know you likely wanted more specific answers. I'm sorry for being so vague. It's just that i'm not nearly as opinionated as I once was. The more cues I build, the more I realize nothing is certain & not much can be 100% predictable. I used to think I had it all figured out & had the "perfect" formula. But the more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know. Truth is, I think wood quality & construction quality is what makes the difference. Taper shapes & weight & balance play a great role in a cue's play quality. But beyond that is wood & construction. I believe if the cue is built solid with great wood, the joint pin & joint collar materials are neither here nor there. So go with what you like the looks of, so long as it does the job.

Not stupid at all. a sleeved ivory joint with a G-10 probably wouldnt get what you are looking for. But a solid ivory joint with a G-10 should hit fantastic. But Qbilder is right it depends mostly on selection, quality of wood, construction and dont forget about the tip for the feel you desire.

This is what I was thinking.

Simple, wrapless merry widow, ebony nose and butt, super figured macasar ebony handle, long ivory colored buttcap, or not with a figured ivory hoppe ring. 19" balance point. 3/8x10 black G-10 pin. No ring work, or maybe simple metal ring at A and B only.

I've got 4 in the works right now with full ivory joint and G-10 pin.

#2 has a full moose antler joint with a G-10 pin

I have one I'm building that has a Full caped ivorine joint with a G-10 pin and an uncored ebony forearm. How do you think this cue will hit?

I shoot with a non cored African Blackwood forearm with a Burl handle and Ivory joint. To keep the weight down I installed the G-10 pin.
I couldn't tell you if the pin makes a lot of difference but this combo hits great.
It's my favorite shooter to date.

Sounds like you have a 'full circle' qbilder:)

Something like that. I have always strived to gain knowledge & used to think I had it all figured out, but nothing could be more untrue. Things that work for me won't neccesarily work for others, and likewise. Nothing is certain.

This is a good question. And the answers are really informative from some guys who really know their stuff. So thanks for that.

On another note (and I dont mean to steer the thread off topic) but I could swear I saw a Jerry McWorter cue at some point that had an ivory joint AND pin. Is that a playable cue? Or is it just for looks?

Thanks.
