Ivory joints/ferrules

Aside from any aesthetic appeal, are they known for any particular quality of "hit" or feel?

I think it is really up to the player. I prefer ivory joints and ferrules and I like the hit and tone they produce. With that said, I am not sure I could identify joint and ferrule materials in a blind sound proof test.

There is a sizable contingent that feels ivory produces a softer hit than other materials, especially in the joint. But I think that's more dependent on the hardness of the tip, density and taper of the shaft, and whether the joint has metal or wood connection with the pin.

I can't go to your web site. I hypnotized myself to never go to any web site other than AZ Billiards. I hypnotized myself to not miss any pool shots too, but it has failed to work on my 3 rail banks.

I don't think ivory hits better than other materials. There are 2 things I really like about ivory though, first is it is one of those materials that has soul, warmth. I respect that something lived and died and this beautiful material is still enjoyed playing this game we love. second is looks great and is utilized to make nice cues nicer.

There has been debates about different joints Ivory, stainless etc etc, as far as i know nobody can really call out what type of joint they are playing with if the joint is covered.

I feel what it really comes down to is the hardness of the tip, the taper and type of wood and what MM the thickness of the shaft is. I myself have a solid Ivory joint with a pure silver ring wrapped around it. and i could not tell the difference with my stainless steel joint. but i can with the Shaft.

Ivory will Crack

Starting from top

Schrager 1970. Everything white Ivory
Ray Schuler with Burton Spain points, one of Ray's first cues.
Joss West 1972 with Ivory joint.
Ebony and Ivory, everything white is Ivory, Lizard wrap (perfect skin, perfect wrap Kenny Koo).

I just like the lok and feel of Ivory.

Bill Stroud sent me three cues with Stainless Steel joints, I sent them back.
Sorry Bill but after 40 years the joint finally cracked and no it wasn't your fault.
I came home on an hot day and two ivory joints failed that day.

I need to find someone to repair the joint?

Your Ivory Joint craked on a hot Day ? I had a Ferrul break off a shaft but i blame that one on a mortar Attack. I thought the Heat in Iraq was going to ruin my cue, but Joss built mine to last so far its been pretty much bullet Proof.
