ivory vs ivorine

Hi,
I've been playing with an ivorine3 ferrule. What I don't like is how it absorbs chalk, but, the hit is excellent. If I go to an ivory ferrule ( soft ivory? ) will the hit and feel be very different?
Thanks,

Absolutley. The hit will be different, and the deflection will be higher. If you get used to it though, it is a very good material to play with. I have been switching back and forth between elforyn and ivory, and I think I like the elforyn better. Its man made, its more durable, and it plays fantastic. Just my opinion though.

Yes, probably quite a bit. I have Ivorine lll ferrules on my Dishaw which I've had since '95, I think, and I've never had a problem with chalk. Four shafts and they all get used regularly. Are you sure of the ferrule composition?

Just curious where you get the "soft ivory"? Can you also get it in medium and hard?

ivorine 3 does tend to get dirty easily. take it to a cue repair man and have him clean the ferrule then seal it with some thin CA. that will prevent the ferrule from absorbing the chalk in the future.

"Soft ivory" comes from elephants that didn't drink enough milk.
People with these ferrules are inclined to play for peanuts.

Seriously,i've had all my ivory ferrules replaced on my playing cues.
They deflect more than i like and are vulernable to temperature and
humidity. There are a lot of great modern materials that work.

However,i love breaking with ivory. They make .36 more balls.
But i keep cracking them.
