Jacoby cues and value

hang-the-9

I'm a bit curious as to why Jacoby cues seem to be lower prices than any other custom maker? I have seen pros use the sticks and the few I have seen in person are very nicely made with super nice long points. Seems like they should be a few 100 more than what they are. Is it a larger manufacturing setup that I am thinking it is, closer to a Joss or just the person in charge is really behind offering a low cost but quality cue and is happy to make a lesser profit?

i am not sure of the exact size of the operation, but i think many people consider it to be similar to a produciton cue.that is what i think anyway.i am in no way saying that he is a production cuemaker,i am just saying that some epople think that.

If it is signed...... David Jacoby............ Than it's not production

All other Jacoby's are production cues.

Just my opinion

I believe that Jacoby is considered a semi-custom cue shop. I do not believe the operation is that large, in comparison to say, McDermott or Viking, nor as automated.

They do have a catalog of 'standard' cue designs, but they will do a custom for you as well...although just how custom, I could not say.

I got to design and pick out whatever I wanted in this cue
After everything was agreed upon cue was done in under six months

That's one of the nicer Jacoby's I have seen, Chuck...well done! Nice to see them doing the nice sharp veneered points, as opposed to the rounder CNC'd ones. :)

I'll give you mine opinion...

Jacoby cues are a ***** to sell. And frankly, I CAN understand why.

He is a super guy to talk to, and I have seen some of his repair work which was excellent.

But unlike the cue above, it appears he is VERY happy with CNC. I mean look at Jeanettes cue ....OMG!

My recommendation is take one of his cues,,,,loaded with CNC and IMO gawdy as hell and set it beside a....Tascarrella, or whatever and you honestly be the judge.

Thinking about it.....this is one of those threads that would be best served in the Cue Reviews/Discussion section. I would think you would get more replies there. :)

What was the cost...JER

If I remember right it was 940 with one shaft plus 220 for a matching Z2
I even emailed back because I thought the price was too low for the amount of work in it

The above cue's inlays are CNC but, so what? You want to compare two cues, one probably costing 600.00 and the other 3000.00 and then point out the differences. Some people like traditional ( Tascarella ) and some people like the more modern inlays on top of inlays. I build only custom, exactly to customers preferences, and I would have to say that I get orders for the Gaudy cues probably about 8 to 1. Preferences change with every new generation. In the fifties and sixties they would have put you in jail if you walked around with your pants hanging lower than your under wear and probably committed you if you had nails and such drove through you nose. Now it's the cool way to be.

Well, the reason I put it here, I figured the cuemakers would be more familiar with the Jacoby shop and pricing.

That's exactly why I was curious about them (him). For the price you get a very nice cue, yet the reputation of the name is not in the same level as Joss/Shon/McD but more on the level of the higher prices customs.
