My .02 cents

This thread certainly took a downward spiral, and everyone is entitled to their opinion. I think some people like a positive outlook while recognizing the negatives that exist, and others view the negative side of the sport while recognizing a positive now and then.

People that are close to Pool, on many levels, that maybe do not play that much can still be very knowledgeable about the sport and the people in it, as I have known some in my 45 years of playing. Maurice 'PaPa' Burke was one of them. He owned Burke's Steakhouse and Motel here in Wichita, and had 1 table in the backroom that was 'The Table' in town for any kind of local player , road players, shortstops, and pros coming through town. Many players came to Wichita, just to get in on the action at Burke's. They opened at 4 pm till 6 am the next morning. Papa couldn't play that well, but had beautiful cues, cases, and knew the odds of EVERY SINGLE MATCHUP that went on in the backroom. I used to give Papa the 3-5-7 and breaks when we played. He also backed me for a bag of sand match per set shortly after I moved here from Houston.

My point is, Jennie is, I believe, a very intelligent astute person, who picks up on things very fast, and also is privy to inside information in the Pool world. She expresses and relates her experiences on here in a most delightful way, and I always look for her posting. She makes many valid points.

Others have valid points as well, and perhaps bad experiences with players and Pool, as I have in 45 years of playing. There are many players that have become beloved by some as they get older, that were terrors when they were young, perhaps doing many things they are ashamed of now.

Everyone is Human, and we all have to face our own realities. Some get lucky, some do not. No one knows the complete state of Pool because it changes depending on where you go in this country. I have noticed a downturn locally in Pool, and really the only spark has been the IPT.

Recognize that people have differing opinions, and try to be civil, or just ignore them.

Besides, if Keith were to write it all on his own and submit it, the magazine would have to heavily edit it, or run the risk of a good story getting lost because Keith can't write a story as well as he can tell a story.
If Keith did his own writing, the story may end up being too "colorful" for magazine publication.

.....(which I find out now, is really you doing the writing) wrote in a magazine....

I figured this out the first article I read. Duh! You should be more appreciative about how lucky we all should be to have a such very good writer joining up with such a colorful pool player and giving us some outstanding entertainment.

Can I assume that you won't be buying McCready's book when it comes out? :D Get real.

You mean to tell me that those articles in Inside Pool titled Instruction by Keith MeCready actually were not written by Keith McCready.

What a sham. If Keith is using a ghost writer then JR should state so.

For all we know they are JAM's stories and not Keith's.

Jake

All I have to say is: DUH!!! Same comment as above to Watchez. And you shouldn't even be allowed to buy Keith's book LOL.

For the record:

I want everyone involved in this to understand that I am very disappointed in the childishness displayed here.

Jen has made her mind up and it doesn't sound like she'll be back.

For the people who wanted that, congratulations.

As a reward, I will be paying more attention to people who like to stir controversy and they will be given due attention.

Yes, I'm pissed now.

JAM will be missed if she leaves. She was like a camera from a different angle. We will not get that perspective from any other poster here.

This is bad news for A-Z.

At this point, I must come clean. While it's true that most all of my posts come from my own brain, it's my damned right hand that types nealy all my posts. I have absolutely no control over what I call "my troubled hand." This hand seems to have a mind of it's own. It has pushed poker chips into the pot against my better judgement, costing me dearly. It has taken thousands of ill advised shots on the pooltable for over 40 years, depleting my cash flow. It has gotten me into lots of trouble online, because it simply won't shut up. And, it continues to shovel all the wrong foods into my mouth against my will. It has picked up items that don't belong to me and forced me to drink massive quantities of liquor against my will. It has abused my body repeatedly. I feel better about divulging the truth, but I'm not certain what steps to take now. They say, "if thy right eye offends thee, pluck it out", thus my eye patch, but what fate awaits my evil right hand........

Usually the writer wants the credit but sometimes they do not... some like to remain anonymous. Taking into consideration the nature of the column, it could actually get confusing for some if it were to read something like "Keith's corner, written by Jennie". The fact that Jennie wrote it is such a minute part of the story that if she isn't worried about her name being on the byline, then no one else should really.

Honestly, when I read a magazine... any magazine.... I never look to see who wrote the article. I think people should enjoy the stories and not worry about who actually wrote it. Knowing who wrote it doesn't give me enjoyment and entertainment... it's the content of the story. Besides, if Keith were to write it all on his own and submit it, the magazine would have to heavily edit it, or run the risk of a good story getting lost because Keith can't write a story as well as he can tell a story. Better to have the person next to Keith doing the editing than it is someone in an office 100's of miles away trying to guess what he said. :)

Good point Tims. I have had many articles in B. Digest and P&B mag. Almost all have been edited to fit space requirements. In doing so, often my words are altered or deleted. And that's the name of that tune.
