My .02 cents
This thread certainly took a downward spiral, and everyone is entitled to their opinion. I think some people like a positive outlook while recognizing the negatives that exist, and others view the negative side of the sport while recognizing a positive now and then.
People that are close to Pool, on many levels, that maybe do not play that much can still be very knowledgeable about the sport and the people in it, as I have known some in my 45 years of playing. Maurice 'PaPa' Burke was one of them. He owned Burke's Steakhouse and Motel here in Wichita, and had 1 table in the backroom that was 'The Table' in town for any kind of local player , road players, shortstops, and pros coming through town. Many players came to Wichita, just to get in on the action at Burke's. They opened at 4 pm till 6 am the next morning. Papa couldn't play that well, but had beautiful cues, cases, and knew the odds of EVERY SINGLE MATCHUP that went on in the backroom. I used to give Papa the 3-5-7 and breaks when we played. He also backed me for a bag of sand match per set shortly after I moved here from Houston.
My point is, Jennie is, I believe, a very intelligent astute person, who picks up on things very fast, and also is privy to inside information in the Pool world. She expresses and relates her experiences on here in a most delightful way, and I always look for her posting. She makes many valid points.
Others have valid points as well, and perhaps bad experiences with players and Pool, as I have in 45 years of playing. There are many players that have become beloved by some as they get older, that were terrors when they were young, perhaps doing many things they are ashamed of now.
Everyone is Human, and we all have to face our own realities. Some get lucky, some do not. No one knows the complete state of Pool because it changes depending on where you go in this country. I have noticed a downturn locally in Pool, and really the only spark has been the IPT.
Recognize that people have differing opinions, and try to be civil, or just ignore them.
