Has Keith read (and perhaps provided important feedback on) the final version?
Has JAM done research on the best way to market the book?
Has JAM vetted the best publishers?
Has she taken into considerations the best publishing format?
Has she prepared or have knowledge of the proper documents (contracts) so that she (and Keith?) or anyone else involved get the most compensation as possible? (no free lunches here)

JAM may want to chat with Max Eberle.
I believe he is published in the similar field.

As you probably know, it's not about just writing and then publishing.
My posting goes beyond whether Keith "wants this book to reach the masses."

Lol ... maybe JAM will need to translate the entire book into Pig Latin. ;)

JAM ... count me in also. The initial 50 may need to be expanded to 100+. :smile:
 
Awright....

I'm in for a signed copy... looks like it's taking off.

I remember Keith walking into Hard Times and the first thing we hear is:

"AWRIGHT, LET'S GO!!!"... instant action, the whole room energy shifted.
I forget who he played (Morro?), but it was One Pocket and Keith was on fire.

Without due diligence and preparation, no project is likely to meet it's true potential.

Keith has a story and it should be told and remembered,
but at his pace, for his reasons and when the time comes,
we here,
will support you both.

We do have some kinks to work out relating to legalities, as Kid Dynamite said.

I have spoken with other pool book writers, e.g., Phil Capelle, Freddy the Beard, Grady Mathews, and Robert LeBlanc to learn more, and some of them offered some very saged advice on what to do and what not to do.

One kind soul offered to fund the book for a percentage, which was very much appreciated.

Though the book may not be everybody's cup of tea, it is a fun read, if I do say so myself, laced with lots of pool happenings with some of whom are still alive today. Though some of Keith's life has a Stu Ungar-esque similarity, he was also one of the most popular players to walk in any pool room. Thanks to his gift of gab, many would surround his table and enjoy The Keith McCready Show.

Pulling his name in a tournament was not a piece of cake in his prime. When he was on, he ran packages that nobody would overcome. But Keith's priority at most tournaments was to get in action after hours. That was his bailiwick. Tournaments were a gathering place for all the elements of a good challenge match.

The goal of this book has always been is to make it a good read for everyone, not just pool peeps. In this regard, I hope it succeeds. We will offer 50 signed copies in a galley format before the final published version is released.

This is where it stands now. We have some wrinkles to iron out before we can move forward. Thanks again to those with the kind words and for acknowledging Keith's book.

LULU & BABY BOOK -printers

The printing of Self publishing is often done by companies like LULU and BOOK BABY and others.

I have an editor working on my 8 year autobiography project but am only printing a few copies for family. My son asked me to write about my life several years ago. The cost for printing the hard-back books isn't cheap but it isn't prohibitive either. I think my book will be around 50-75 dollars, considering it it several years worth of work, the cost is nominal. Lol For paperback books and quantities of only a few hundred, the price is VERY decent imo, of course it depends upon the number of pages and the size of the pages.

You're one of our least favorite posters so Get Lost jerk. Jam is gold to AZB, she has been more informative then most of the people that post here. If you don't like her then I don't like you. Bug off you nit. Oh and :kma:

I read this forum long before joining and I've read much backlog, so I have years of knowledge on this subject.

She certainly has some stories and photos, but she actively hijacked so many threads with stories and photos that were irrelevant to the topic that it made it frustrating to attempt to read those threads.

I'd be reading about some topic and then there would be a 1200 word dissertation about some dude who someone who had replied to the thread knew and 10 huge photos of geezers. This would be followed by private conversations.

Lot's of people seem to enjoy that, but it is bad forum manners to put huge off-topic posts in informative threads.

Thus my comments.

So many people are so extremely sensitive on here. I never said anything that was personally insulting about JAM. I never even said that I disliked her...tho that may be misconstrued easily, I admit. I dislike her posts and the way she hijacks threads. She should start her own thread with her random stories and photos. It would be a huge hit and something I could easily avoid.

Finally, I never even said that she wasn't qualified to write the biography. I said that she was likely too biased by love for Keith to write a biography I enjoy. I read. I read a lot. I've read enough authors from enough genres and enough time periods to know what I like. The biographies I have liked the least are always written by someone who adored their subject.

Maybe JAM will avoid this, but having read loads of her stories on Keith, it is highly unlikely.

Never intended to say I don't like her, I don't like her posts.

And you can kiss your own ass, tho you likely lack the capacity to find it with both hands and a map.

Pretty cold hearted and unnecessary. Why pass that kind of venom around?
 
JAM writes some of the best stories, best reports and replies that this forum has ever seen. So YES, she is a very good writer, especially about things relative to pool, although I suspect she has writing talent for other subjects as well.
