Who was JAY SWANSON, I ask because I do not know.

The best player to ever come out of San Diego. Swanee was known as The Gentle Giant. Over 6' and 300 pounds, he had a smooth yet powerful stroke, and was one of the most feared money players in the 80's. He won the Sands in Reno and Resorts 9-Ball in Atlantic City in the 80's also. The fields had every top player in them.

Soft spoken and laid back, Swanee was loved by nearly everyone in the pool world, except maybe a few of his victims. He was the first road mentor for a young Johnny Archer.

Rumor has it, that Swannee was "smooth". He grew up in Chula Vista and was a fireman for a while. He was also able to kick his leg above his head at 300 pounds and was able to win a lot of $ bets this way:D .

May I ask how many players you have signed-up so far? If you have spots open, can we sign-up at Hollywood Billiards during the week?

Thanks ahead for your reply,

A true gentleman - wish he was still around. Picture is old - from the '70's - not very good but ......

Swanee

Knew Swanee down in San Diego, and yes, he was the best in town. He never had a cross word with anyone... just let his stick do the talking.

And no matter who you were, or how new or inexperienced you were in pool, Jay was glad to explain things to you, answer questions, and help out your game. Wish there were more like him now. There are not. :(

Jay's skill was as huge as he was. "The Gentle Giant" is an appropriate memory of Swanee.

He also loved body-surfing, remarkably.

The Swanee drew 183 players.

Fatboy added another $1,000.00 to the added money. Johnny Archer and Scott Frost also came to play.

Tell Eric, thanks - those who contribute to the game need a thank you at the very least.

Almost a full field --- any interesting matches yet?

The Texas Chinese Champ beat Tang Ho. Archer ran through his first match and then drove away in a pearl white Bentley - must be doing well.

Thanks, wonder if its his or ?

It was great of Fatboy add $1,000.00 and to sponser Archer who won the Swanee, but I wonder if the West Coasters wish otherwise? Oh well, Parica, Efren and Busta weren't there this year.
