I KNOW I WILL PROBABLY IRRITATE SOME PEOPLE WITH THIS THREAD, BUT IT IS NOT MY INTENT. JUST A QUESTION FOR EVERYBODY. LET ME PREFACE THIS BY SAYING I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE ENTRY FEE WAS, OR WHAT, IF ANY MONEY WAS ADDED, BUT THE PAYOUTS BELOW SEEM INCREDIBLY LOW FOR HAVING 192 PLAYERS IN THE FIELD. I THINK THAT WAS THE NUMBER OF PLAYERS I READ? CONGRATS TO THE GUYS THAT PLAYED WELL, BUT THIS JUST SEEMS LOW, GIVEN THE TURN-OUT? DOES ANYBODY ELSE SHARE THIS HUMBLE OPINION? I'M NOT TRYING TO START A RIOT, JUST CURIOUS ON OTHER PEOPLES THOUGHTS?

Yeah, but this is nothing new, is it? Pool does not bring in a lot of revenue these days.

I am sure that everyone who worked the event has retired on the earnings from said event.

How much was entry, how much added and how would you have distributed it?

I don't think this is an added money event but I could be wrong? They also spread out the payouts to top 1/4 of the field. This spreads the money out quite a bit. I would have to go back and see what entries are to be sure of anything.
Maybe Jay H. could pipe up and let us know for sure.

This tournament seems to be a tournament that draws more than a few people. It is probably attractive because of the large quantity of quality competitors and is an annual event that people look forward to competing in and honoring Jay Swanson.

The fact that they paid 64 players in this touranment is probably also one of the main reasons why they have so many players in the tournament.

Some tournament promoters realize that people play in tournaments for fun and that "coming in the money" is something that the majority of players seek in accomplishing. Apparently, this tournament promoter "gets it".

Others are getting it too. The days of a few people making a "good" pay day playing pool in regional tournaments is simply a mirage or a dream. The regional tournaments are for camaraderie/socializing and testing your skill, not for earning a living playing pool, IMO.

Not flaming you by any means, just sayin.....

I like the large numbers of people that come out for this compact, efficiently run tournament and would love to play in it one year but it will probably have to be when I don't go to the DCC.

1st got $2500 = $2500
2nd got $1500 = $1500
3rd got $1000 = $1000
4th got $750 = $750
5th-6th got $525 = $1050
7th-8th got $400 = $800
9th-12th got $300 = $1200
13th-16th got $200 = $800
17th-24th got $150 = $1200
25th-32nd got $100 = $800
33rd-48th got $75 = $1200
49th-64th got $50 = $800

So, thats $13,600 in price money.

192 players, $50 of entry goes to prize money, which is $9600. It was a $4,000 add if full field, so, total was $13,600, equals out.... Full payout of all money (minus the $15 green fee)

A little low, but not that bad.

Even if they paid 25% instead of 33% you are only adding $100 to the top people. Not really much impact and more people got to say they got in the cash.

AND STOP YELLING AT US

If you are going to make a statement then you should have some facts....

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=116745&highlight=swanee+tournamen t

$65 entry fee which included $15 in green fees

$4000 added with a full field, which they also had.

192 players x 50 = 9600 + 4000 added = 13,600 paid out.

Add up the payouts, it is all there.

The only thing you could 'argue' is that $15 green fee x 192 = $2880 and seems like an awful lot of money so is the tournament $4000 added or $1120 added. This has been brought up on this forum before with valid arguments made for both sides.

However, if they got 192 players with a 20 player wait list, more power to them and doesn't seem like 200 or so people mind or know enough info to mind.

That's Right

That's right. Complete payout. Well run event. The numbers seem low because they paid out to so many spots.

I remember when they started to spread the payouts on the PGA Tour, the top players fought it while the majority of the members supported it. I imagine the spread payout for pool is the same way.

IMO the ONLY thing that I would change is raise the entry fee to $100 and spread ALL of the extra monies ($6720) to 1st-3rd or 1st-5th and continue to pay through 64th as usual.

An entry fee of $100 is still very reasonable when considering the caliber of players that play this tournament every year.

The dollars add up and the green fees seem very fair. The payouts to greater than %25 of the filed is rather taxing. With an entry fee of $70, IMO they should only payout places 1-16. How much do the TD's receive for their work? I know it's a tough job that deserves compensation. But that should be paid from the ticket sales, or out of the room owners pocket.

The $$$ adds up correctly.

The entry should be $100, paid to 64 with the top spots picking up the extra cash.

Little light on top IMHO.

Great event in any case......

black balled, I wasn't making any kind of implication that the people running the tournament retired from all the money.

just an observation and wanted to solicit imput from all the pool people out there. thanks joey for your imput and everybody elses as well! I stand enlightened! the payouts that struck me low were not so much the top 2 places, but more 3rd - 8th? if you played your heart out and got 5th with a field like that, it just seems like it should be more, thats all. I understand the numbers like everyone else, most pool players do the math, just an observation on my part, I wish pool would be better paid like everyone else! it's a great sport and we all have devoted a lot of time reaching our respective skill levels.

thanks for all the imput people!!!

I agree the payouts were small; however the #'s add up and it does not seem to affect turnout.

The event remains successful with room and opportunity for growth.

It works.
