JB Custom Case "The Palace Garden"

John,
Your TEAM of Craftsman (AND, Craftswoman) are doing amazingly beautiful work.
So much detail on just about every square inch on this case.
And the colors...
Zhen Hai Lee, Miss Zhang and Miss Chen, Long Wei and Yue Wei,
each one of you deserves high accolates for incredable workmanship.
John, you are so smart... You found the best craftspeople in the world..
So much talent in China...

Alton - Cue Caps

Thank you Alton,

If we can reach even half the beauty of your Cue Caps then I will be happy. I say that because having watched you grow these past few years I have to say that there are cue makers who will never build a cue with teh level of detail you put in your work.

Lady ??????????

That is an amazing case... but I hope it is for a lady.

That is some serious work there Mr Barton, you are right to be proud. Certainly have taken it up a notch with this type of work. I have paid very close attention to cue cases over the last fifteen years and the last two to three years have been very telling. There is a 'no limits' attitude to products and it is something I admire, in both makers and commissioners.

Were these cases the special thing you mentioned, John? Truly magnificent if so.

Great case John. Now where are the additional pics and story? :groucho:

John,

Absolutely stunning case! How many hours were put into the carving? Are the flowers hand painted, if so how durable is it? I would carry this case anywhere. Not sure why it would be meant for a female. I'd be honored to take it into any pool room.

About a month went into the carving and painting portion of this case. This includes the time spent researching the orchids, redrawing them and coloring them with pencil on paper to get the colors and nuance right for each one.

Each orchid was then tooled and colored/painted by hand using dye, colored pencil and acrylic paint in layers to faithfully reproduce the flowers in detail. The whole case has a finish on it so the painting is fairly durable. Like any other paint job though the actual paint rests on the surface and as such can be chipped. The dye and pencil layers are pretty much permanent though.

I definitely would not be tossing this one into the backseat.

I think that the comments about being for a woman were in jest, now the one I am making with pink girly skulls on the other hand......

Well I am exhausted. Ralf has posted some more pix of the case and I will go and get them later to post the last bit here and then I think we are pretty much done with the Palace Garden presentation. It was very difficult for me to box this case up and send it off because I had so much energy invested in it and two because I would be sick if it didn't make it to the customer. I think in the future I have to charge an extra $2000 just to cover the cost of hand delivering cases like this one. :-)
