JB Rugged Case

Those JB cases are known to warp cues. They are so tight that it bends the shafts.

An expert case maker, Jack Justis, has already mentioned this.

Dom,

Think the AZ forums have already spent enough time debating this issue. From your post, guess you own a Justis case. Good for you. I voted with my wallet and ordered a custom JB case. From the number of people I know who have replaced their Justis interior with one from John, guess he's not perfect either! Enough with the character assassination. Is the Rugged Case a quality product, yes or no? The OP wants to know.

I have a 1 x 2 GTF tooled leather case and yes it is snug and that is good. I love it and it looks great. I have other cases where stuff rattles ... no good. I think all the negative BS is really about John and that is crazy. Opinionated, confrontational, speaks his mind??? Yes, yes and yes but I for one miss him so flame away! :p

I bought a few Basic Ruggeds when they first hit the market and have sold
off many of my handmade exotic cases since.
The 3x6 Basic was $110.00 shipped (initially), so I bought Six. One is used
as my everyday case. The others are for storage. I especially appreciate
the fact that they accommodate butts & shafts up to 32.5", as I have a lot
of 60" Customs and some Larry Vigus Wood Pin Cues.

If I were currently in the market for my first case, it would be a JB Rugged.

Ron, I know that there is no love lost between you and John. Can't say that I don't blame you. I know, you hate the thought of putting a 50 in someones pocket for a DVD also.

You could always buy a Sterling and have it fall apart on you promptly. Then spend another 80 bucks fixing it. I know about that one. I have 2. They do make great storage cases tho.

To be fair, I saw one of the Rugged cases. They don't come any more rugged than that.

Unless you get one made from Teflon.

I have a couple of GTF's. Gotta spend a bit if you like your cues.

I have no problem with barton, never have had. Many people will find that difficult to believe but it is true. Nor do i have a problem with him charging whatever he wants for his products. My problem is with the morons that pay it, as they inflate pool related prices for all of us, and deter new generations of players.

The industry is in trouble when people are demanding 90% of the retail price for used or unwanted goods. Find me a single other example of this and I'll tell you it's a good idea.

Ultra pad interior

John makes sleeves of silky material to insert the but of the cue if you may be concerned about any friction burns to the finish.
The inserts work great for the cues with sports grip or the shorter cues so you don't have to dig em out.
The sock/sleeve john has came up with works great.
I'm currently only using one sleeve with my short sneaky.
When I'm asked, I've always told everyone to go with what works best for their needs.

IMHO - if it had not been for JBcases we'd all still be toting around plumbing tubes duck taped together.... going on about shoulder straps or something silly.

Rugged or Ultimate Rugged?

I own both rugged and ultimate rugged JB cases. Other than the top handle and extra pocket there is no difference I can tell.

The interior is the same.

The exterior material is the same.

The attachment points and external hardware appear to be exactly the same.

I bought my 2x3 rugged for $90 shipped and my 3x6 rugged for $110 shipped. At last years SBE I bought a 3/4 - 2/5 Ultimate rugged for $150.

The prices have gone up. At this years SBE the same ultimate rugged case I bought last year was selling for $200. An ultimate with leather pockets was north of $320.

I think the JB rugged cases are the best case for the money I ever bought. I'm not so sure at the current price points they are the no brainer they once were, still the best cases made, but the price point is starting to hurt. Going to be tough to attract the beginner or casual player at those prices IMHO.

Recently purchased a 4x8 rugged. Great case for my Josey. Love the fit, finish and sturdiness. It was tough to buy for me as I think he is a huge asshole.

You're so full of it that your eyes are brown! JB Cases are some of the best made anywhere on the planet. The better quality things in life cost more. Most of them are worth it...certainly JB Cases are (and are warranteed for life). Let's see even ONE example of a warped shaft from being in a JB case!

**Good luck**

Very glad to see you edited your original post. People are wondering why AZ has gone to the dogs. Pretty simple. Personal attacks like the one you edited do nothing but bring ALL of us down. John is a different person. We all agree on that. Please leave well enough alone. He isn't here to defend himself and he sure doesn't need me to do it. Peace.

Lyn,
There was nothing personal in that attack. It was a truthful sentence and statement. However unlike him, I decided not to bring it up where he isn't. But since you bought it up.. Its my personal opinion that his "deleted" posts are nothing more than to try and cover up his transgressions.

I'm a pool junkie (I guess we all are to some extent), so I'm always looking at equipment. The JB Rugged case I own is hands down the best case I have seen, functionality wise, regardless of price.

Really, it's not even close. I'd love to see some cases in that price range with their quality.

With all due respect, you may or may not be correct. Do however want to know what it has to do with whether or not a JB Rugged Case is a good value or not. That was the OP's question.

Well yes, since you decided to keep going.

If the OP was in the service then IMHO he should know what John's feeling towards the military, specifically people who fought in the recent wars, is. That may help him form an opinion on whether it is a good value for him or not.

BTW before you post something like that is not the question, the door to Johns character has been opened by multiple people before me. So don't go there. In addition I was totally content w/ my edit. So now you can take the credit for bringing it up.

I am very happy with my JB Rugged case. I got the one with three pockets and it is great.

Anyone knows how much does a standard Ultimate Rugged (3x4 or 3x6) weight?

My 3x6 weighs 4.1 lbs. empty. Loaded up with 2 playing buts, jump handle, 10" extension, 5 shafts, misc. pool gear, and a handful of quarters tops out at about 8.4 pounds.

These are well made cases.offering a lot of protection for our cues. The attaching points all seem to be well done as none are showing any amount of loosening after months of use..

I posted some pics of the workmanship here http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=397061
