Jeanette and Calcutta?

anyone who has ever played in any kind of tournament with a calcutta would tell you that the player has to go and pay his half if he wants it before the tournament starts. If the tournament kicks off, its entirely up to the person who bought the player to decide whether to give them a piece.

No matter what happened here, in no way whatsoever can I can think of a situation where a player can legitimately ask for pay for their half one match before the money (9 hrs later). No way, thats ridiculous. Only thing more ridiculous to me would be if she had asked AFTER she was in the money.

That said, this isnt the first time, nor will it be the last time that a player has decided to forego potential reward to screw a calcutta buyer. I have seen that happen so many times, its pretty much buyer beware in calcuttas. The smart play would have been for the buyer to immediately let the player know that they plan to jelly roll the player in the event they cash.

the SMARTEST play would have been to do this and then NOT jelly roll, lol. Then we could have Jeanette on here raising hell about the calcutta buyer instead of vice versa.

This deserves another warning for the longest run-on sentence in history!:p

I hope you know I am just kidding and being a dipshit myself!
There are others here that can give that post the 5 thru.

Here is what a reliable source had to tell me today and those that know me know I wouldn't post this if I did not completely trust this version of the story. I will not bring others into it but we agreed it was appropriate to post Jeanette's version.

Jeanette arrived to the tournament and realized she had forgotten her cuestick. She drove back home, which is about a 40 minute drive as I have driven from the venue to her house before. When she returned to the tournament the calcutta was over and she went to speak to the directors. She told them that she wished to buy herself and asked who bought her. They replied the guy who bought her had left and that they would vouch she was willing to buy herself back before tournament started. Apparently the gentleman that bought her did not show back up around until the end, and when told she had asked to buy herself for half before the tourney started he did not accept. He refused to compromise even after the directors told him she wanted to buy herself before the tournament started and long before she was down to the final 6 players. So, after several attempts at negotiating she unscrewed and left.

There you have it, another side to the story, and if it's an accurate discreption I think the tournament directors should have did more and just forced the guy to let her buy herself, after all they were holding the money. Or at least had her give them half before the guy got there to hold in good faith or something.
Who was the TD then and could we hear this from him?

As for her forgetting her cue, I know a few pros who have done the same thing, after travelling much farther. What I don't understand is how your source states that the buyer left when he was playing in the tournament, and at least two people saw him talking to her before play started???

If it was me that would have been her only chance to get half yourself back. Considering he bought her not knowing what the total pot would be I wouldn't say "Oh yeah, sure. Go see if it's worth your while." Nach, buy half now or never.

you know i believe a similar instance like this happended in texas with jeremy jones... but i heard that through the grape vine

You cant find the buyer, you walk up to the TD before the tournament kicks off and say "here is my half...buyer is MIA..." TD notes that and refunds the buyer 1/2.

i totally agree, shes in the right if the tourny hasnt started yet, but this was 9 hours after the calcutta, when shes in the semis on the winners side when she asks for herself.

The way I understand it, and the description of the events are vague, she clearly went to the tournamnt directer and said that she wanted to buy half herself. Surely she would of not declared to the T.D. that she wanted to buy half herself if it was too late, would you agree? Possibly she assumed that she had bought half herself when she went to the T.D. When she finally was able to talk to the gentlemen that bought her they told her it was too late. Well at that time she had many options on how to react.

1. She could of hit him with her cue.
2. She could of told them to go f---k yourself
3. she could of finished the tournament and had them strongarmed.
4. she could of quit, which she did.

Oh, I almost forgot, she could of finished the tournament and tried.

The way I see it she was so angry, feeling that she was being cheated that she did something that she would never do, and that is to quit in the middle of a tournament. So considering what she did answers the question on who is right.

If she wanted to bid on herself that badly, she should have left her max bid with a trusted source before retrieving the cue.

Vague ...

I dont think anything is too damn vague unless Billy is starstruck too.

She had her opportinity and wanted to "evaluate the bet", and missed her chance.

Billy have you ever been to Vegas? After the dice are thrown, you no longer get to "evaluate" before laying the bet down.....

You guys kill me.
