Jenn Barretta Pro player... REALLY?

You're not saying anything new that hasn't been common knowledge since the day she started. Even Ewa wasn't too kind about her game.

.

I don't think anyone is claiming she plays level with top male pro's. I believe her player level ability rating is considered Open, which is still way better than a mid level league player.

Pro is both a player ability rating and job/career title. Sometimes they are not the same. Especially when the player ability rating scale is the same for men and women.

Speaking of recent womens tournaments and her 3rd place finish. Ga Young Kim was 1st, Vivian Villareal was 2nd. Jennifer 3rd. Ewa and Jeanette Lee finished below Jennifer.

General question about professional athlete's and competitors. Take the top 100 professionals in any given sport or game. Compare the people rated 1-5 vs 95-100. How do they compare ? Baseball pitchers, baseball hitters, football quarterbacks, golfers, etc..

Well that's only because...

I find it odd that you miss the point. I think you also miss a few comma's. You seem to think that it is ok to insult Mike and CJ among others as a justification for the original post. It is not.

By the way, it is not easy to be hot. As a hot guy I am very aware that women only come to watch me play because they want to see me bend over the table when I shoot, swooning if I have to rest a leg on the rail when reaching for a long shot. I know that they do not truly appreciate my skill and it wounds me.

I must admit, however, that I often swirl my chalk when I cue because I know the babes love it when you swirl the chalk instead of grinding it on the tip. I also use an overhand grip from time to time for the same reason. Have a little empathy for us hotties we like to play also and should not be objectified.

I am sure that the two examples of male player that you used have also had their share of female adulation. CJ in particular has had to fight it all his life in order to be appreciated as a player and Mike.......c'mon you KNOW he drives the babes crazy.....why do you think he grinds the chalk the way he does? If he swirled he'd never get a moments peace.

Mike drives the girls crazy because the old adage of what a big shoe size means has been proven false, but the adage about having a large cranium....

No, now you missed the point:) I DON'T think its okay to insult Mike or CJ but
its done pretty regular without much regard but god forbid its said about
a hottie and people go up in arms. Re-read my post.

Uhhhhh, have you seen the reaction lately when potshots have been taken at CJ? Perhaps "up in arms" isn't the reaction, but for the most part he has been defended rather regularly as of late. (And he takes care of it himself pretty well beyond that, in any event.)

True that MD gets battered around here pretty well.

Still doesn't justify disparaging any of our pro's, male or female. Respectful differences of opinion are one thing, the way Ms. Baretta was treated in the beginning of this thread doesn't pass the "respectful" test, in my worthless opinion.

These are the kind of threads and posts that really disappoint me. Negative and hurtful with no benefit.

I just want to say, Jenn just got remarried to a great guy. She's got a son at home who's growing up to be a great kid. She plays pool. She works on it each and every day of her life and balances all of the other things that go in her life as best she can. She doesn't deserve a 14 page thread on whether or not she can compete; not when there are plenty of other people doing crazy shit to get the internet's attention.

That said, she competes! In men's events, she wins some matches and loses some matches. In women's pro events, she's always likely to finish strong. What part of that does not make her a pro? You didn't like a shot she took? Maybe thought she blew an easy out? Shit man, if you think pros always play like pros, let me tell you now you are setting yourself up for a huge disappointment. Everybody stinks sometimes and let me tell you, when you want to play well and you're playing on a table you've never been on before, on new cloth when you haven't seen new cloth in 200 hours of playtime, the odds of stinking only increase. It happens. Sometimes it's a matter of preparation and sometimes, there's nothing you can do about it.

I'm going to finish by congratulating Greg and Jenn on getting married. I think they're a great couple and meant for each other. I hope if this thread continues, people can at least acknowledge that she's doing her very best to make a life through pool, has represented the sport and the United States very well and continues to try and be competitive in every arena.

Scsuxci, I think that Justadub puts it very well in the next post #204l.

However, I should clarify what I posted somewhat. I could have been more clear, I apologize. I was not suggesting that you thought it ok to insult MD or CJ but rather that you inferred that there were some that would insult them but would refrain from doing the same thing with a fetching lady professional like Jennifer. Because you seemed to be making this comment in defence of the original post of Jesters it seemed to me that you were in agreement with his disrespectful behavior.

You then went on, in my opinion, to make light of anyone who felt that the comments about Jennifer were not respectful and should not have been made by suggesting that they were all motivated by how she looked.

Many who come to this forum and communicate do it in a respectful and thoughtful way. Conflicting opinions can be offered without animosity or rancor. To then suggest that anyone who has an opposing opinion only has it based on how the subject looks is disingenuous and is simply is not true. Most who offer an opinion on this forum do so in a respectful way regardless of the gender or hotness rating. Yes, you can give me examples of some who are not respectful (chosen from this very string of comments) but that does not make what you suggested right.

How i read the OP's Original post wasnt insulting at all imo.He never said she sucked
or was an idiot but was trying to find out what warrants her to being a ''pro player''
because he didnt feel her level of play matched the hype he has heard.
Seemed quite harmless to me, compared to comments I've read about the 2
male players I mentioned previously. Look at a female player like Shannelle Lorraine, who's greatest claim to pool fame
is because of her looks not her ability to play pool. Being hot doesn't hurt in the least.

"Confessionsofapoolhustler"

i had the privlidge of meeting jen at the tar studios last year. She is one classy lady who is great for the sport and she plays good also. Anyone who says anything negative about her is nutz !

So Jesters is a female who was a "pool rookie" 4 years ago but woofed in this thread about her ability to beat J. Barretta? :yeah:

I would take your money FOR SURE! I know this. It would have to be for much more than $500 too. just to cover my expenses to get there and then my time and make it worth while. Seriously you don't want any part of that bet.

Not the first time she's attached Jenn on the forum. The jealousy is deep with this one.
