Jensen Cues?

I am currently looking at a Jensen cue, and wondered what opinions those here have about Mike's work? I do notice that he tends toward smaller diameter shafts than 13mm, running more in the 12mm-12.75mm range.

Thanks!
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

I've owned several Jensens. They are one of the most undervalued cues on the market! I never have been able to understand why the resale value is not the best in the world, because the cues are very well made and have a hit that is as solid as anyone's. The fit and finish is very nice. In addition, Mike Johnson is a really nice guy that is very easy to work with. He's also been in the business since the 60's. Mike will make any diameter shaft that you want, and if you look around, even the ones on the secondary market can be had with 13mm shafts.

Regards,

Steve

Jensen cues are undervalued cues. I can say that. They are solidly constructed and play well. The designs are not too ornate or elaborate either. They do NOT for some reason, hold the value the way other cue makers do. I don't know why. Based on their design and playability, they should. But who knows? The cue market is a tricky thing to figure out.
As for shaft diameter, I would never play with 13mm anyway. For the most part, I find the best shaft diameter to be in the 12.75 to 12.875mm range. I've only owned one cue where 13mm was acceptible for me. Aside from that, thinner is better and more playable to me.

Cool...thanks for the comments so far! While the one I am looking at isn't as fancy as what I currently own, there is something very special about this particular cue that has me very interested!!

Lisa,

As you know, there are some cuemakers that don't impress me, but Jensens are terrific hitting cues. They are undervalued for what they can do on the table. After collecting and trading cues for years my player is a plain jane ebony Jensen...it is not for sale.

Doug

In another post about Jensen someone stated that Jensen's are player cues and not collectible. I think this is true. I play with a plain bocote Jensen. All I wanted was a good playing cue, nothing fancy.

You can't go wrong with a Jensen. Great playing cue, good value. Meant for playing and not to hang on the wall as art work.

i just picked up a jensen.. its about 15 years old or so...

anybody know how long mike has been making cues?

i just sent it out to be refinished and have lizard put on it.. i would have kept it original but mike wasnt very good with the finish years ago.. i heard he had a problem with his and just about everyone spidercracked really bad.. everyone of the old ones i ever seen did.. it will be as good as new when i get it back.. really looking forward to it :) and i will be sure to post pics in the cue gallery..

anybody have any info on his website? i guess its down?

He had someone do the initial web site for him that also did the one for Lambros. The guy used a lot of wording from the Lambros web site and left a lot of the stuff about Lambros cues. The site was a real cluster F...

The guy disappeared and left Mike Johnson with a web site that he could not get into to make changes. I guess that is why the Jensen site is now gone.

His phone number is 225.924.4517
