Jerico cues!!

I have a Jerico Bacote Stinger that I bought several years ago. Well I have decided to play on a BCA 8 ball league and had to change the phenolic tip to leather. I never knew how much of a mess someone could do just changing a tip. I went to a local poolhall that I play in and since they do cue repairs I brought in a Samsara J/B tip and asked them to change it for me. Thirty minutes later I got my cue back with cyano acrylate glue on the ferrule and down on the shaft about two inches. When I mentioned it, the repairman told me I could clean it off myself with some alcohol when I got home!!
About an hour later after I composed myself the owner came in, I showed him the mess his repairman had made and he took the cue apologized and said he'd fix it. He then proceeded to sand the glue off and also some of the finish that Jerry uses to seal his Stingers with. After seeing this I got my cue back and left. The next day on my second rack the tip flew off and landed on an adjoining table! ENOUGH is ENOUGH I thought...
That was when I called Jerry Powers at Jerico Cues. He agreed to restore it for me and said he has his own leather J/B tip that he'd install. I sent it out last Tuesday along with my payment for his services and received it back today fully restored, new J/B tip and completely polished up good as new!! I can only say THANKS to Jerry for such fast, professional service. I'll post a followup as to his new tip tomorrow after I have hit some racks with it.

Jerry makes great break/jump cues and stands behind them . His customer service is the best in the biz. Jerry himself is one of the nicest guy's you will ever speak with . I have tried his new leather break/jump tip on a few Stingers and they do perform very well !!!

Jerry not only makes the Stingers, but he also creates some fantastic custom cues...not to mention, it's his inspiration, design and implementation going into the new McDermott G-Core shafts. I think they hit the ball as good, or better, than any shaft out there! He also happens to be a BCA Master Instructor, as well! Jerry is an amazing guy!

bloody murder!

Jerry is THE MAN! Super nice, always, helpful, and a fine cue builder. He will absolutely and completly back his cues

I called Jerry on a Sat. morning to ask about my Stinger tip that fell off. He said just send him the shaft and he would fix it for free no problem. That he did. The Stinger is a bad ass jump break cue and from what I have seen Jerry will take care of any problems no charge.

1st I also have a Stinger J/B and it is awesome. I am not about to change that cue's tip. I do have a back up J/B that I changed the tip.

A few months ago I bought a used Cue lathe and started doing some tip replacement and shaft refinishing knowing I will never break even. Of course doing nothing to far out or over my head. I am not a Cue maker by any means. But it doesn't take a Rocket Scientist to put a tip on. To my thinking they used both the wrong glue and too much of it. I believe the reason the tip flew off was lack of preparation or having both a clean ferrule and sanding the back of the tip. But the point is tell all your friends to never never use that Idiot for any cue work. Any time I put a tip on a stick, as part of the deal I refinish the shaft to 1,000 grit sand paper using Tim Hightower's products. Sure I know I can buy the same stuff at my local hardware but then I can't tell people I use Tim's products. Business or Hobby I always believe in leaving the best impression I can. In business I found people are willing to pay a little more for great service and products. Those who don't want to pay a fair price aren't worth having as a customer. Those not willing to give proper service aren't in business very long.

Yep I agree with all the above and have told all my close friends about the masacre my cue endured. I have purposely not mentioned the name of the establishment because maybe someday they will get it together. They say Jesus walked on water so you just never know!
I just went and hit some balls with Jerry's new J/B leather tip and it is an excellent choice for those that are interested. I will say that I have some difficulty feeling any difference between the three leather J/B tips I have tried thus far. Those are the Samsara, Jerico, and the tip supplied by cuetechasaurus. I do not know much about the last tip you will have to contact him for the maker, but all seem fine for both jumping and breaking. The leather J/B tip seems to hold onto the cueball longer compared to phenolic. Jerry Powers agreed with me on that and got into a technical explanation about the elastic compression of leather. I knew I was over my head, but his explanation made perfect sense to me, (sort of)....
The other thing worth mentioning about Jerry's restoration is the shaft sealer, it is a smooth and slick as owl sheiit on a hot summer night!

Not trying to take away from Jerry's excellent reputation, but smooth shafts are only a matter of taking the time with very smooth sand paper. Of course taking dings out is another story but there are simple tricks. But with the right equipment anyone can do it. U tube has many videos that show how.

What I don't understand is how the jerk messed it up in the first place. But then you can't fix stupid.

BTW I found Super Glue GEL and not liquid to work better. I also use an activator. I believe the liquid Super Glue is absorbed by the tip and changes the hit. The softer the tip the more it is effected. At present time I am fooling with making a Masse cue and using very soft tips. I started with an old cue that I cut down and put on a 14 MM ferrule. Don't ask Yet! I am still trying and I am not a Cue Maker.

More than sandpaper

Hey BB,
Jerry is using some kind of sealer and then polishes the shaft. That is what the "other repairman" sanded off when he tried to remove the glue from the ferrule and shaft. This was also one of the resons I sent it to Jerry. I mentioned it earlier in the thread, either way it is REALLY smooth now.

Most Cue guys will use Shellac because it dries real quick especially on a spinning lathe. Add in a hot work light and it dries in seconds. But I believe Jerry might use a polyurethane which takes much much longer to dry. I actually got my stinger second hand from a buddy who needed money at the time. I have done nothing to the stick other than Cue wax and the finish is great. The Phenolic Tip Should last forever I think.

Everything that has been said about Jerry I double. Have four of his cues including a "stinger" Latest is a old school Hoppe type 60 inch custom that is fantastic; even makes me look like I know how to shoot. He also is "old school" in taking care of customers will bend over backwards to make sure they are pleased.

I have the new leather tip on my Stinger.....wow. It's better than the Phenolic he replaced......SPF=randyg

I have a stinger that I bought 2nd hand. While practicing at home one day,
for a couple of big upcoming tourneys,my tip flew off.I didn't want to play without my stinger,
and I knew only Jerry could fix it properly.
I called him,and he said to he was leaving for Valley Forge but if he got it before he left,
he would fix it and send it back.I sent it to him right away and got it back in only 5 days.
Thats when I realized what an awesome break cue the stinger really is.
I noticed the old tip had been cracked for some time
as it was blue on the cracked edge from chalk.
I had it back in time for the tournaments, and it really made a difference.
I made balls on every break, and won the tournament and also cashed the next weekend.
Jerry is one of the best cuemakers I have dealt with.
