Jim Murnak Vintage Case Owners & Past Owners?

Before finding AZ Billiards I had never hear of the Murnak Cue Cases. now after looking at his web-site I am considering ordering a Custom Jim Murnak Vintage Case but have a some question for owners & past owners of Vintage Cases.

As an owner past or present what are your like, and dislikes about the Vintage Case.

If you have a 2 x 4, or 3 x 6 do you have any idea what it weights empty.

The Model I am considering ordering is linked below, and it has the 2" deep pocket. Those with this Model Vintage Case are the pockest easy to get accessories in and out of with the zipper running side to side.

Last question would be what changes would you make to your personal Vintage Case if ordering it again. Like Towel ring, 3 x6 or 2 x4, Single Carry Strap verses Back Pack Straps?

murnak case

breaknrun- i have a 2x4 case on order now. i have made the following changes: towel ring

Only change I would make is to lower the tubes by 1". My review is posted on his website.

I have a a 3x5 vintage with 2" deep pockets, towel ring and turn clasp instead of the lock. I would have got the tubes an inch shorter if I was to do it again. I got the standard "backpack" straps. I took one off as a spare,it works fine with just one strap. It will be nice to have the backpack straps if I go to a Tourny or show where you do alot of walking. They are built well and compare in weight to a same size instroke. Justice might be a little lighter, but not enough to matter. thanks jeff

Suggestion

On the initials on the lid, I would get a font that was easier to read, and that you didn't have to stare at it for 10 seconds figuring it out. And I would want the tooling more evenly distributed instead of just top and bottom loaded.

I do not own a Murnak Case

I do not own a Murnak Case but in looking at his web-site many times, and I am impressed with what I see.

Also I do not see many Murnak Cases changing hands on E-bay, or in the Wanted For Sale section of this Forum after an Archive Search.

Think that fact says something about customer satisfaction with the Murnak Cue Case.

I wrote a review of my 3x5 a while ago. I continue to beat it to death and my cues are perfect. It is not the lightest but I could care less, when I cannot pick up my case it is time to give it up! JMO..

(Please don't let this thread digress into another Murnack vs. Justis debate - again.)

Murnack cases are absolutely incomparable.

I had the tubes shortened, and had a special strap made just like the one he did for Naz: http://www.fist-inc.com/general leather/gl1601.htm

Jim's cases are not a piece of leather wrapped around tubes, with another piece of leather on the back with 2 rows of rivets holding it all together (sound familiar??)

These are finely crafted leather cases with the finest of skins, with the best stitching available anywhere, and construction methods unparalled in the Industry.

Just look at Murnack's pocket system - anywhere from 2-6 pockets incorporated into the case instead of added on. And no ugly rivets down the back.

Anyways, think about the strap or strap system that you want. And you might want to change the lock into a more traditional turn-clasp. And make sure it's personalized - you'll never want to sell it anyways!

Murnak is a great choice

I concur with what von Rhett said above. The Murnak case is absolute top quality. They are somewhat heavy, due to the thickness of the leather used, but it is ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM. I am certain that I won't need or want another case for my personal use for the remainder of my lifetime, and this case will pass to one of my sons. My 3x6 weighs around 7lb 8oz empty. It also has a double back strap set-up so you could carry it like a book bag if you wanted, but so far, I have not needed to, and I am an out of shape, 55+ year-old.

Top quality, great customer service, timely completion, reasonably priced, and uniquely designed......here is my case, a 1 of 1 for less than a comparable Whitten, etc.
