Joe Tucker in Texas - The "Inside" Perspective

Thanks for the post CJ but it was truly MY pleasure to have spent time with you. How many people have this guy’s experience? Road player, tournament champion, successful room owner, pro tour/player promoter, organizer, televised events. The list goes on with him but the bottom line he is a very passionate person and loves pool as much as anyone we know. He “Talks” a lot here but the man is a DOER.
In just a few hours he made me a smarter and better person. Thanks for sharing CJ, only wish I had more time!
After talking with mark today I learned you will be calling and I look forward to it. Lewis

returning to the status of "The Master Game"....it can be done, and done quickly

I guess this is why I don't play 9 ball.

One Pocket or 14.1 hasn't changed. Still nothing but tactics and being able to run a few balls.

Good post

John

Yes, 9 Ball is the one that got diluted, and again, I understand why it happened and no one sabotaged the game on purpose. It's really the professional players that need to stand up and create the rules for the best of the game.....not to just speed up tournament matches.

I really believe the "Shoot Out" rules make the game at least 10 times better and I will debate that any time on AZ Radio or some other radio or streaming video show. I think everyone needs to know the EXACT reasons it's 10 times better, not just someone's opinion.

Let's all join to make the game the best it can possibly be, with no concern for anything but returning to the status of "The Master Game"....it can be done, and done Very Quickly.

Who's to say intelligent people wouldn't like pool too?

Finally, someone actually gets it!! I'll be watching with bait on my breath but I've said before, if you change the 9 ball rules people will stop playing it in droves. I think the shoot out rules are too complicated for the current 9 ball players to grasp. It has to be simple enough for them to not have to think too much:rolleyes: I really, really hope this game will work out. I have a ton on respect for both you and Joe, good luck!

Maybe it's not that the rules are too complicated, maybe our "current 9 Ball players" are not our ideal "target audience". Maybe positioning, and portraying pocket billiards as a more intelligent/sophisticated game could be the marketing ploy we've needed all along?

Shoot Out Rules are less complicated than golf, but they would appeal to a more intelligent, sophisticated, strategically oriented TV audience.

Who's to say this huge group of affluent people wouldn't like pool? ;) 'The Game is the Professor'

I come from the era of 15-Ball Rotation, Snooker & 2-shot Roll-Out 9-Ball. All great games.

Supposedly TV changed things. TV is famous for changing things, some for the good, maybe some for the bad.

I watched Jackie Gleason & Art Carney (another thread) doing their thing about a corner pocket shot. I'm still laughing.

Joe Tucker is trying the hatch a new way to play Rotation. Maybe a game with BALL COUNT will win over the games that require only one ball be made, in order to win. I see a wrench heading for the works in Pocket Billiards.... hmmm

.the game, as it is will not appeal to strategically minded audiences.

They say "TV" changed things, but we all know "people" are the only ones that can change things....they changed the rules to keep Buddy Hall, and Earl from winning every tournament (they thought) and increase fields while speeding up the game and making it less skillful....and in the process took out MOST of the strategic elements too.

We have to change it back or it will continue to suffer even if it gets it's "big break"....the game, {as it is} will not appeal to strategically minded audiences.

The Target audience!!! That's what we need to truly find out! I play at a couple of different halls and when I see around 50-60 different players, 95% of the players are are not "students" most of them don't enjoy the game for what it truly is! No one appreciates the complexity of the game! There just looking to make a game! I'm not saying that there wrong, I just think that these typical 9-ballers are not the audience we need! But then, you have few that are like me, (not my words), everyone calls me a student of the game because I practice,,, I play all the games, I love watching the pros and I try my best to make an honest effort every shot I play! Whether its practice or gambling! The point here is finding the target audience! I don't think you can Target players like myself because I think there is too few of us! So its not logical! I have an idea but it would take way to long to write it here and it can't be written, it needs to be heard to understand! To sum my theory up, we need to get the pros to start mixing and mingling with lower level players! Not to gamble!!!!! But to "show" them things! I'm not sayin free lessons, I'm talking about interaction! The it is need to be salesmen, and not for themselves, bit for the love of the greatest game on earth! If I could decent, I know I could sell, sell, sell, sell!!!! I can make people fall in love with great game! Sorry for the long post, I hope it makes some sense:)

One thing we used to do when I was touring regularly was charity events.

That's a well thought out, informative post....thanks for the insight.

One thing we used to do when I was touring regularly was charity events. I can't tell you how many I did in LA alone...from AIDS Benefits at Hollywood Athletic Club to the Pre Academy Awards Party hosted by John Travolta and Jody Foster.....and many in conjunction with the Bicycle Club Casino events.

I'm surprised that there's very little being done with Public Relations these days. I did a charity event in Dallas at Carsons Palace and raised over 30k for the Scottish Rite Children's Hospital and was on all three morning radio shows in Dallas......we could be doing much more of these events on a weekly, bi weekly basis.

That's the key CJ, public relations! We are going about this all wrong! We are trying to find away to get people to come to us,,,,, no!!!!!!!! We have to go to the people! And how do you do that, well that's the million dollar question!

the attachment MUST come first, that's the "million dollar answer".

It's not "rocket science," I've seen the formula work and it's been used in all other major sports and games.

The challenge is seeing it in other sports/games because it's SO well branded. Pocket Billiards has left the public's consciousness for so long that it's been forgot about, that certainly doesn't mean it's "dead".....it can be brought back to health very quickly with the correct approach. The game can't generate enough attention because, like baseball and golf, it's not that exciting to watch UNLESS you know the players and have an emotional attachment to them FIRST.......the attachment MUST come first, that's the "million dollar answer". :yeah:

I have tried to get some around me to try 2 shot but no one even considers it. They just don't get it! And they never will if they don't try it...

In that same pool room though American Rotation has them talking about something new! It's good to see/hear!

Joe Tucker has a great idea and I am all about supporting him in any way that I can!

Let's do this!!

The solutions are often right in front of our eyes.

I know, in life, like in this situation with pool, the solutions are often right in front of our eyes.....and we still don't "have eyes that can see', or a mind that can try something new. 'The Game is the Teacher'
