I think keeping it at a one day event with a limit of 64 is a great idea. Keeps everyone happy. Pays well and doesn't take forever. However, I would see it better as a race to 7 on both sides instead of 5 on the losers. An extra 2 games per match wouldn't take up too much time.

You would be surprised how much extra time it takes. The first tournament had only about 36 players and it was a race to 7 on both sides and didn't get over with until 6 or 7 SUNDAY morning. Talk about tired. Talk about complaints. Believe me, the extra 2 game reduction onthe one loss side made all the difference in the world. They also eliminated the 2nd Calcutta which was a good thing time wise.

Buffalo Billiards tournament is held every two months.

The next money giveaway is Saturday 3:00 pm October 13.
Since I am relatively sure that the cut off will be for 64, anyone interested in playing should send in their entry fees ahead of time.

LOL, I just love that Louisiana math (I use it daily playing cards, horses, dogs, Jai-Alai,etc.).
If you are hill-hill going to 5 games, you have played EIGHT games.
If you are hill-hill going to 7 games, you have played TWELVE games.
It takes MUCH longer to run a one day tournament going to 7 games on Winner & Loser sides.... imo

Any way, we could play some cheap Tonk, I'm not very big on spades, less of a skill game - and it's not as much of a read game as I like... Over everything I'd rather play some Omaha or Hold 'Em heads up.. but we can play Tonk if you'd like.... You seem like you're moving around a lot playing in tournaments and getting into action... if you're around we'll play

It is very successful because of the generous money that is paid out and added as well as the fact that it is a one day tournament. I doubt if it would be as popular if it went to 2 days. What are your thoughts about making it a 2 day tournament?

Personally, I like a two day tournament that only has people in the money coming back the 2nd day.

That way, if you are in the money, it is worth the expense to stay over (usually), but if you are not in the money you are free to go.

This is the format for Planet Pool (MD-DC area) tournaments and I always liked it.

Thanks for that Doug.. Well then let's just say I'll make the extra few games go by a lot faster then you think they would be. And in my opinion the only way those "few" extra games would take so long is if you have two people playing that can't make a ball. heh..

The seeming simplicity of spades is deceiving. I had a friend that was head and shoulders above anyone else I ever played with. So good that I swapped decks on him a few times, not being a trusting soul. We bet small but in five years I can't remember him ever coming out behind, to anybody.

Simple doesn't always equal not needing skills. After playing checkers almost from birth I got bored and played chess for awhile. I played chess at a moderately high level, meaning three to five moves or more ahead. Much to my surprise, when I went back to checkers I discovered it was a much harder game than chess!

You won't be able to run two consecutive racks on the one loss side. The build up of humidity from the packed sweaters, in spite of the good A/C as Buff's, combined with the tight Diamond Tables will cause all players to take it down a notch or be eliminated quickly.

Sure, maybe you will have a good match where things run faster than a BP Mike Tyson's opponent but sooner or later you face the reality of slower is better but everyone needs to learn on their own.

Personally, I prefer the two day tournament (when they are in my city) but I think the out of town guys for the most part, like the one day tournament a little better as well as the working man and the married man. It is a lot easier to justfy to the boss about going to a one day tournament than a two day tournament, especially those tournaments that don't finish until LATE Sunday evening/night.

Smorgasbored you devil dog - you. You have to spread the news about me taking a bath. Well I guess it is OK, since you are a devil dog and all. Everyone gets a bath every now and then. I got beat fair and square, just a better player than me is all. NO sharking, no complaints, my opponent was a gentleman and I admire his style and ability. My opponent was just the better player that day and that's all there was too it. Perhaps there will be another day and I will have a chance to redeem myself.

I agree. It is a dark day in the Aguzin household, but I'm certain that WE can help Joey through this trying period. I can tell by his lack of participation in the forums these past two days, that he is in recovery.

( I guess I'll just go ahead and tell what I read somewhere else. My poor pal Joey not only came in 14th in the big tournament played at his 'home room', but he went on to come out on the short end of TWO 500 jellybean sets. Like Johnny Cash, my wife and I have been dressed in black these past two days while mourning Joey's loss. I know Joey well and I'm worried about him at present. I hope that he doesn't do anything drastic. I'm thinking INTERVENTION...... imo )
