John Morra announces hiatus

Dang, he's one of my favorite players to watch. Watched him win the Texas Open in September. Good luck with the endeavors Mr. Morra.

No problem with this. John is moving on to some other of life's challenges.

John's in his late twenties, and some will feel that he's leaving the game too early, but not me. They said the same of Jean Balukas nearly thirty years ago when she retired in her late twenties. While noone can suggest that John's accomplishments are even close to being on a par with Jean's, it's easy to overlook that these two players had long, not shot careers, for each competed as a junior and went on to play for many years at the game's highest level.

John was a fine player and a positive role model for all pool players and, for those reasons, he will be missed.

Whatever comes next for John, I wish him the best. If he applies himself in future endeavors the way he did as a pool player, good times surely lie ahead for John.

Good luck, John.

DCC in a couple of weeks too.

Guess we wont see the Justin Berman and Morra matchup.

Any case good luck to John Morra.

Pool is a tough ass grind to make a living.

Shoot no!

That's terrible news, as a canadian actually up there in the pool world, john will be missed by all of us. Maybe he burned himself out, it happens to all hard workers at some point in life. Damn

The pressure for these guys must be just enormous. I mean, playing for your paycheque each week and having to either win or place high just to cover expenses and maybe squeak out a profit?

They talk about the pressure of Wimbledon, The Open or other majors/Slam's in other richer sports. But at the top echelon, they are playing for their pride and legacy and when they lose, they sulk in whatever luxury villa/penthouse they feel like sulking in.

I can't blame anyone for choosing a different career path, and John is still young enough that he can pursue just about any career really.

Very stunning to hear, just saw this on facebook. Wish him well with whatever he does. He is a class act all around.

Yes, Pool is a tough ass grind to make a living, and that only applies if you are a world class player ... if your speed is slightly slower it is impossible.

Best of luck to John Mora, I wish him success in his next endeavor. He is a great player and will be missed in the world of Pool.

Well, pool breaks another mans heart. At least he figured it out now while he's young.

That's too bad.
Such a superb player.
Such beautiful form and fundamentals. Solid stroke.
Real role model for others. More than you could say about 90% of the other pros.

Loved watching him play.

I'm hoping it's a short "hiatus", nothing permanent.

Good luck John, in whatever else you plan to try. You are one of my favorite players. I'm sure this was a shock to most of the pool world. Johnnyt

I watched that turning stone ten years ago...17 years old goes undefeated through the tournament and loses to archer in the final race to 13. Very impressive and John carried himself so well through it all.

Such a solid player. I just watched him play this last Turning Stone and I'll miss seeing his name on the list of potential winners.

Good luck to Mr. Morra - I have a feeling when he finds his new career and hits his stride in life and family, that we'll see an appearance or two from this guy, who now plays pool as a hobby, but can sure take on the world when he gives it a go.

CJ Wiley walked away in his prime and is the most successful ex-player out there in the US. Go make half million or so and come back in 10-15 years and enjoy the game again.

Don't forget the two owners of the APA. Johnnyt

He is the one guy that has such perfect form, I'm always in awe watching him play. And, he's a top contender in most tournaments to boot.

Has anyone considered if how Sunday went at Turning Stone in both his A side/B side matches went gave him pause that led to this shocking announcement?

Not even close. Guess you never heard of Pete Margo?

First thing that popped in my head. If he had of won, I wonder if it would have made a difference.
