Wow, that one is hard to believe, he is usually in control of his emotions winning or losing.

Here's the skinny. I saw John Schmidt a hour or so ago with Troy Frank sitting in the stands. I asked him what happened when he left mid-match with Shane from South Dakota, and he said he hurt his back playing golf yesterday and was in extreme pain. From the horse's mouth. :p

Speaking about Shane, he's on a roll, folks. He just beat Italian Champion Fabio Petroni 11 to 7 (I think).

Young Gun Brandon Shuff from Virginia advanced in the losers' brackets, beating James Conn. Brandon plays Larry Nevel next.

Currently, Alex Pagulayan vs. Francisco Bustamante on the TV table, and Efren Reyes is battling it out with one of my faves, Jose Parica. Talk about a Filipino surprise!

Jamie Barracks lost to Canadian Luc Salvas and may be heading back home with Chuck Raulston. Chuck said he's in school, but he loves himself some pool. He told me about MANY upcoming tourneys in his region, which sound mighty inviting.

That's an update. Keith plays the winner of Reed Pierce and Voldes. Pierce was winning last I looked, but the match is very slow-going.

Well, I hope there's some logical explanation for this, but Schmidt also unscrewed down 9 - 3 against Brian Yi at the 2004 Big Apple Nine Ball Challenge. It appears that this guy just doesn't get it.

John uncrewed against Max Eberle in Reno a couple of years ago down 8 to 0. Max, said after the match that he (Max) would have never done that, and that he had seen players come back from such a deficite. I've seen John get frustrated in many matches. He is a terrific player and one of the nicest "pros" I've met, but needs to perhaps work on the mental toughness and never-give-up attitude.

Of course, he is good enough that he thinks he can beat anybody (as does Earl), and perhaps when he falls short he gives up??

Thankfully at my level, I'm often just happy to see how many games I can win off of these guys. I really would take some solace if I was able to come back from 8-0 down and even lose 9-3.

Regards,

Doug

I wouldn't worry about John's mental toughness- I have seen him pull his last 3000 to his name out of his underwear, and play Wiseman after he just lost a set for the same- Then proceed to beat his ass. I have nothing but the best things to say about John. One of the best people I have known in my life, not just in pool. The only thing that sucks about that type of situation, is the John Schmidt fan betting on him, and never getting a chance. I've done it myself and got chewed out for being bet on, and it never occured to me when I quit.

J.S. is a one pocket ghost buster.

A friend & I once gave J.S. 4/1 odds on the 15 ball 1 pocket ghost.......guess what (on a $200/rack bet..$800/200) Jhon S. ran 2 one pocket racks out of the gate.My Loss = You guess.

This guy is known for quiting matches and tournaments, he also quit in the World Championships in Taiwan. He quit mid match against Marcus Chamat, it ended up helping Marcus to barely make the knockout stages and go on to beat Archer in his first match.

Do not buy Schmidt in a calcutta and never put a side bet on him during a tournament, he's bad news.
