John Schmidt Wows NY Crowd

Once again John Schmidt wowed a crowd of approximately 40-50 people on Wednesday night at Cue Nine Billiards Bar and Restaurant in Levittown NY. Accompanied by his lovely girlfriend Nancy who was all smiles and extremely friendly during the exhibition, you can truly tell she cares about what John does and who he is doing it for and to see him in his element was pure joy. On to John, John walked in out of the cold and without a single warm up stroke ran 160 balls in straight pool. Now 160 balls is a massive feat in itself and one that some people in their lifetime will never achieve but to do it cold is almost unfathomable. The onlookers were overjoyed as each rack ended and as John got closer and closer to the hundred each rack would end with a thunderous applause. Now for the best part, as John was shooting whether it was ball one or ball one hundred he spoke to onlookers, answered questions, made jokes, and imparted massive amounts of knowledge to the crowd huddled around the table at Cue Nine. It just goes to show how much class John has and how much he truly cares for our sport and its players. Each question that was asked was met with a knowledgeable and positive response as John’s patience seemed almost limitless. Ball after ball continued to go in the pockets as spectators looked on speechless. After asking around it turns out most of the people watching Schmidt had never seen a player of that caliber in person and it was visibly noticeable on their faces. The looks of awe and jaws wide open were proof enough that something special was taking place right in Levittown NY.
After the incredible straight pool run John went on to show some of his eight ball, nine ball, and one pocket knowledge with some amazing shots geared towards players of any speed to help get them out of trouble in game situations. Simple things that most pros know if not all but the beginning player may overlook. Positional shots, safeties, banks, and more were on the list as players would cheer as each shot went in its pre determined hole.
Even after all of this, a massive straight pool run, in game shot showcase, question and answers, John then proceeded to take out two Fury Cues (John’s Sponsor) and played challenge matches with the crowd to give them away. Each player that won was elated to not only go home with an incredible story but to also take home an amazing keepsake from John Schmidt himself. The world of professional pool is lucky to have someone like John Schmidt and of course to have a company out there like Fury to help him keep doing what he does best. Play pool.
Cue Nine room owner John Brendle and CME-IMAGES owner Charles Eames were both extremely pleased with the turn out of the event and the fact that John hit 160 balls. We can only look forward to more and more events of this nature as time goes on with more and more star players as they come to the area. Once again Cue Nine room owner John Brendle and CME – IMAGES owner Charles Eames would like to thank all of their players and patrons and of course to John Schmidt and his lovely girlfriend Nancy for making the trip to Cue Nine.

Thanks

What more could you ask for........
Sounds like it was some great show. A 160 ball run and to be answering questions on top of it. Playing with players & giving away cues, That is a Class Act in my book. John is a great representative of the Pool World. My Thanks to him and Best Wishes to his new pool room.
Great photos but we need a little more of the crowd and who they are.
I see our guy Stevie K. is in the back ground taking notes......... Good for him.
Thanks for the up date & photos.

What a class act. Strange table, coming in from the cold and runs a cool 160. What happened to getting a sense of the table speed and how the cushions react? Never mind the banter with the crowd. Amazing.

Charlie the night was fantastic, we all cant Thank You & Cue Nine enough for puting this event together.

You took some fantastic photos capturing every detail of every shot. Tap, Tap, Tap !!!!

John put on a he'll of a great run coming in cold and running a 160. He did a great job exhibiting the game and interacting with the crowd. John is a great showman/embasador of the game.

Thanks again Charlie, you gave us all a real treat !

Sounds like a great event. I would have expected nothing less from John. He is the consummate showman and has a good way with people.

Nice photos, Charlie.

I visited this room last month when I was in New York with my job. The room and staff was very nice. If you get the chance to visit sometime I reccomend it.

It is great to hear about all of the good things John has done and continues to do for the game of pool. Sure wish there were a lot more like him in the game.

Wasn't Loree John suppose to be there too. What did Loree John do at the event?

Thanks

Kevin

Loree was supposed to be here but unfortunately her daughter had a 102 fever and couldnt make it. We definitely missed her though and hope her daughter feels better soon.

Great write up Charlie, made me feel like I was there!

Your writing just keeps getting better and better. Pretty neat that you put this together and that John does so well with the crowd. I'll have to figure out how to make it east one of these days to watch an event of this type.

Thanks for sharing it with us in picture and word.

If I had known about John being in the area, I would've stopped in.

He is definitely a class act and a great all-around champion.

Congrats to an awesome event!

For anyone who is looking to bring a player in for an exhibition, I can't imagine why they would ever choose someone other than John. Personable, eloquent, and truly gifted.

Talking with the crowd while running 160?? Insanity. For even the best players, this is almost unfathomable. Though I was never lucky enough to watch Mosconi play, my impression from the stories is that if someone tried to talk to him during one of his exhibitions, he'd have been likely to just unscrew and walk out.

Way to go, John, and to you too, Charlie, for putting it together. Wish I could have been there.

I read somewhere (might have been Danny D's book) that Mosconi was a total a-hole and one time ripped into a child and his parents because he was on a run in an exhibition and missed a shot and claimed he was distracted by the child.

I've only seen John in person once at Valley Forge in 09 when he won the 10-ball and he was exactly as described in this thread. I could never see him pulling a Mosconi like that.

Steve, speaking of exhibitions, I saw you and Tony playing 14.1 yesterday @ Society. You both were shooting lights-out.

Didn't want to disturb either one of you as you both seemed in the zone.

He is always like that. You should have seen him at Derby last year. He was on about 150 or so and a woman stood up and flashed her camera at him just when he was about to take a critical shot. The crowd oohed and aahed and the woman was embarrassed. John got up off the shot and said to her, "Mom, cut it out!" or something like that in a friendly tone. Everyone laughed. The woman smiled. John got down again and started running balls.

how many people do we know that would have reacted that way??

I never anything but good about John's personality. He's cool on and off the table. What a feat to run 160 balls on the fly like that! Nice to see he's doing well with his new room. Hopefully my band plays somewhere near him next year so I can stop by and check it out. Good Luck John!
