Obviously, a top notch player, one of the best in the World. Not disputing or agreeing with that because it doesn't really matter for the purpose of this thread.

It's been on my mind since I read a post about him looking for a backer at the US Open. Here's a pool player who we now know is a threat to win the whole tournament, but unfortunately could not afford to foot his own way in.

This is not to criticize JS, but more to show the toilet that mens pool is in these days. Here's a guy so talented that he's in the final brackets of a 256 man US Open, and he's publicly post in this forum trying to get 1700 bucks worth of entry fee and expense money for the open.

What a shame.

Need I mention the players that are still awaiting their IPT checks?

IPT.....so great for men's pool that it's possibly the reason Efren and company skipped the US Open. Though I realize that there were also scheduling conflicts. Poor Barry can't catch a break.

Firstly, there weren't 256 players, there were only 219 and yes, I feel many weren't there because of the "Jerk around" by the IPT.

I doubt Efren and many others not being there had anything to do with the "Jerk Around" either. I really doubt if Efren has paid his own Entry into any tournament in a long time. Efren too, probably has a few bucks put away since he has already won a pretty substantial amount this year.

I think John's reason for soliciting a backer was more a business decision. I think he could have scraped the cash together. John is a pretty bright individual. He had offers from several, but, I'm happy he chose one of the AZ"rs offer.

The IPT.... Read Deno's quotes in Inside Pool. In the latest issue, he states that the IPT pays on time unlike other Touts and Promoters. The IPT doesn't operate like that.

just goes to show what you can expect as a "professional pool player". this is a game folks, not a profession. there are no guarantees in pool...it's not like you can expect a regular check so you can afford entry fee to tournaments. :)

What's the latest word from the IPT on why the players haven't been paid yet?

Not paying the players on time will do more damage to the IPT's credibility than anything else I can think of.

I know of not a single Pro or Amat player that doesn't seek or desire backing..... if someone wants to rename backing in a PC way and call it sponsorship that's ok, both are the same thing.

John is a class act. He has made it down our way several times and I'm guessing he will be on his way down with a bunch of other open players next week.

IPT Titles are nothing compared to "U.S. Open Champion" on your resume :D

Efren, Ralf, Thorsten, etc. skipped the Open to play in the World Pool League in Europe, which started this week as well.

Correction: I thought Efren was playing in this event, but I just checked the updates here and didn't see his name. I thought it was stated here a month or so ago that he would skip the Open for the WPL. My bad.

Whats this about the ipt not paying prize money on time? Does this mean
the winners of the tournaments have not been payed?

I'm sure he does plenty well with action.. although probably not as good as he used too now that he's more well known.

I dont feel so bad about the 300 or so, and the pool cue he took off of me in a pool hall once now that he won the U.S. open. :D

John is the reason for my username. I played him in local tournament some years back, race to 7. I had 3 shots. I had to kick 3 and 4 rails to try and make a hit. Didn't happen. Last 2 games I missed on the 5 and just raked em in to save us all some time. It was fun though.

3railkick-that's why
