John Schmidt's and Corey Deuel's comments on aiming systems

many go "clack" and never give themselves a chance to "click"

And if the above is your new philosophy to live by which you truly believe in, I welcome the "new you" and we should all start having a lot more in common.

Change can help and does for many. They shouldn't be raked over the coals or belittled, especially when they've been very good players who got even better.
Nobody is stupid enough to stick with something new if it makes them worse, wouldn't you agree?

You're right, the reason many don't ever improve is their inability to experiment. We all process pool differently, sometimes I explain things in 15 different ways to get someone to "click" - however, if someone has preconceived ideas they may "clack" and never give themselves a chance to "click". :groucho:

A great point. It doesn't matter how you aim...it only matters that you pocket the ball!

No I have not taken lessons from Mr Lee. I began to learn pool when I was 6 yo and was taught by an old Chicago hustler, Booie The Trench. He was my uncle and owned a pool hall in Chicago. My mother worked for him and would bring me to work. When it was slow, Booie taught me to play pool.
Through the years I have gotten tips from many pros. Most notably Nick Varner, Robin Bell (Dodson), Johnny Archer, Kim Davenport, and Shawn Putman.
Now at age 66, I'm blind in one eye (PVD) and I can't see out of the other (retina degeneration)...but I still play pretty good pool. Not because I can aim, but because I can leave. If with every shot you make, you left yourself a shot you have made a thousand times...you don't need to aim! That's what Booie taught me!
Like Mr Lee, 30+ years ago I was an instructor too. Now I'm retired and play only with my friends locally. I actually think I enjoy pool more now than ever before.
Randy

Thanks much, Randy.

I've had some eye issues from a slight eye accident 20+ years ago & my 'style' of play had to change a bit.

I agree with you totally about 'the leave' aspect.

Also, at times I've said that I'm playing as much, if not more so, from memory than by actual sight.

Best Wishes, Stay Well, & Shoot Well,
Rick

Hi Dave,

You've coaxed me in.

I TOTALLY agree with your 2nd. paragraph. I also think the same should not happen to one for having a different opinion or one that has formed a different conclusion.

Best 2 You & All,
Rick

A different opinion or conclusion happens and is what it is. BUT only after doing everything possible to understand, assimilate, and perform the system as taught.
If it still doesn't happen then go straight to source who developed the system either by phone, email, or live lesson.

Anything else is premature and not fair to the creator or the system itself. Not purchasing the dvds and only looking for freebie posts or youtube videos won't cut the mustard.

Are you feeling up to learning something new and discussing it? Give my post a shot on the table on how to use a 3 line reference system along with a pivot.
I'd appreciate your effort and comments regarding whatever results you get. Can I have your word?

Dave,

That's where you're incorrect.

Aristotle did not have to circumvent the earth in order to know that the the earth was not flat.

He merely had to notice that the earth cast a curved shadow on the moon & that certain stars could be seen from one location but not another location.

I do not have to put my hand into fire & actually be burned to know that it burns & consumes. I've seen what it can do.

Logical, deductive, critical reasoning is all that it takes.

I'm sorry that I fell for your 'inducement'.

Best 2 You & All

I like the book's central message: enjoy the process and don't get too hung up on the "goal" of winning. I notice that when I'm playing well the "pleasures of small motions" are all there is - the game's outcome isn't important, or even in mind.

You got it right! EVEN when I'm NOT playing well, it is the "pleasures of small motions" that allow me to enjoy the game regardless of the outcome!

Huh? What in the hell are you reading into my post to come up with that kind of response? Wow!

Lol...it doesn't take long for people to figure you out!

As long as someone just sees your screen name and the roadrunner in a post, everyone can figure out what you'll produce.

Obviously not being able to teach an old dog new tricks applies to you. However HAL was older than you when he was teaching new pups some tricks. What a young visionary mind HE had. I'm sure glad a young pup like me listened to an "old dog" like him.

Yeah, I should change that Titlist in the avatar to a Balabushka...I'm bad!

the cue ball is the primary target....not the object ball, or the pocket.

"...but I still play pretty good pool. Not because I can aim, but because I can leave. If with every shot you make, you left yourself a shot you have made a thousand times...you don't need to aim!...."
Randy

Another aspect of aiming....not aiming.

This may be true if you align to the balls consistently. There's an important distinction between "aiming," and "aligning" from the cue ball to the object ball.

To know how to get to any destination you must first know where you're starting from. To get to Kansas City, I can only get directions if someone knows I'm starting in Dallas.

This analogy is about ball pocketing, if you want your destination to be the object ball in the pocket, you must set up (align) the same way every time......to have a consistent referential index to create the angle needed...... it's vital to establish a consistent relationship (visually) between the cue ball and object ball.

Therefore, the cue ball is the primary target....not the object ball, or the pocket.

When you have driven the same path a thousand times, just as you have, there is little need for directions. I totally agree...the cue ball is the primary target.

I am a combat wounded veteran. My injuries that disabled me I got in Vietnam. Sorry if I do not find that humorous.

Thanks for the the price that you paid, Randy.

Those were bad times.

Best Wishes of Everything Good to You, Sir.
