Johnny Archer: can make impact on Mosconi Cup Team

Ha ha, elite international players, you're funny!

Siekkenen?

Archer lost in the US open to Biado and the other Wu. Dechaine or Bergman don't have to beat either of them and could maybe even be considered underdogs against both. Those are real international elites, not Siekkenen.

OK, including Siekkinen was a mistake. Just mentioned it to make it clear that Bergman drew a couple of Eurotour guys and showed solid form.

As for Archer, there are few fans of the game that have seen him play in person, for I attend most of the major events in the United States.

I've also watched Bergman and Dechaine, and they are playing at a significantly higher level than Johnny. I've seen what I've seen and most on this forum would suggest that, as a forty year travelling fan, I know what I'm watching.

PS Did you notice that Dechaine beat SVB in Kuwait yesterday? Mike often takes down big names and that's what makes him one of the most elite. Fargo rate has him as the world's #17 player, which sounds about right to me.

This is exactly the point of the SPR--specific performance rating [..]

Here are the SPRs of a bunch of the US players in the US Open

Also included is the detail for a few of the players. Note that while Mike Davis and Gabe Owen both went two and out, the devil is most definitely in the details

Look at Archer, for example. When he goes 7-11 against Biado, he is performing about 65 points below Biado for that one match, or at 737 speed for that match. Add up all Archers matches weighted by number of games, and Archer performed at 793 speed for the tournament.

That is a pretty strong system. I will admit that I believe it is a much better system than I originally thought. It looks like a lot of work for you though.

I did see that Mike beat Shane. Mike is for sure a strong player. I don't think the skill will be a problem if you have Mike, Skyler, Justin, or Johnny.

Mike seems to be playing super strong right now. But even if he is playing a little above Johnny, thinking what I would do as the captain and picking all five players with no points or anything, Johnny would still be my first pick OVERALL. That is how much I like his game. He has the skill and the mental game plus I think he has a leadership quality that puts him over the top as my number one pick. The energy he brings to this event is good for the whole team and something I would want.

I think Daz brings that same quality to team Eur.

I think your points are spot on when comparing the players match histories etc in recent situations......

But still, in a race to 5 in a situation like the Mosconi Cup, If I had to put my money up I would rather be betting on Johnny than Mike.

Are you in the bathroom when you make these posts? Gotta make cleanup as easy as possible. That's some stamina you've got being able to "post" multiple times per day.

The guy wins an mid level 8 Ball tourny, and people go ga-ga....... :boring2:

Would be great if JA decides to be a spectator at the MC, cheering on Team USA. I'm sure the team would appreciate that. Heck, even better if he leads a group of other pros to be part of the cheerleading bloc.

Who would pay for this class trip?

They'd all be in the players ears between days. It wouldnt help. Facebook is bad enough

Do you have 31 Americans you would bet on against him?!

Fargorate has the top 5 being Shane, Dechaine, Bergman, Morris, and Archer. Skill wise, I like that team.

I'm a big Archer fan, but having said that...

Replace Archer with Skyler and that's the team I would like to see.

Face it - American pro pool is not where it used to be - our depth is weak.

Johnny's intangibles and experience can't be ignored by Mark Wilson. But he's sooo far behind in the MC points.

SVB, Dechaine, Bergman, Skyler and Johnny would be my choice.
