As for strength it would work pretty well, but that is all that can be said about it in a positive light.
Delrin doesn't glue well, so even if it was threaded on as joint collars it would most likely come loose. The only reason that it is used for butts is because it is also held in place by the cues weight bolt. This way if the glue fails to hold, the weight bolt will keep the butt cap in place.
Side note, I work on many different styles of cues in 95% or better of all cues I have work on with a Delrin Butt Cap, if the weight bolt is removed the butt cap is loose.

I use Delrin buttcaps and no weight bolts to hold them.
I live thread the inside then add vertical glue channels that end before it hits the bottom.
Epoxy doesn't stick to them but it fills the threads and glue channels.
I think they are too soft for joint collars and they don't hold finish at all.
this is why i did'nt use delrin second its easy to loose...dont know if its because the delrin material or the glue that was used..

Yes, I have one of Burton's cues with Delrin joint and it plays great. I have another one by him that has a Delrin joint with a thin walled stainless sleeve over it and it hits great too.

In the 80's there was an article in Fine Woodworking magazine on building a cue on a wood lathe. The article was supposedly by a wood turner by the name of Arizona Slim if memory serves me correctly. I've been told by more than one person that this Arizona Slim was actually the infamous character who's real name is Dennis Diekman. If this is true or not I can't say. Anyhoo, in this article he turns the cue and shaft and then not only installed a Delrin joint and butt cap but also a Delrin ferrule. I don't know if he attached the tip with a 16 penny nail or what.

That's good stuff. Much more entertaining than the flat screen.
Why not LBM instead? Glues great. I have a hard time telling the dif? Matter of fact I screwed up and have some stock mixed. Now I have to figure out what is what?
