Joint Protectors

I have a poison cue with a uniloc bullet joint. I didn't use JP for the first year I had the cue and suddenly I noticed that the shaft screws on a bit more than it used to. Both the shaft and the butt have the poison logo on the joint collar and at first those two were perfectly aligned, but suddenly they are not, shaft screws on a bit too much. So I got a pair of JP... I don't know what caused this or if the JP are actually doing something, but as others said, it makes it easier to take the cue out of the case, especially the butt..

I use joint protectors on my cues.
The only time I wont use a joint protector
is on a shaft that is wood to wood joint fitting.
Because it will cause the thread on shaft to wear out faster.
Causing lose fitting when putting cue together.
It will cost more to have shaft fixed than worth putting
protector on that type of shaft.
That just my opinion.

:-)
Well - I think I do want to get some nice custom caps made for both my old Huebler and my new Dan Janes. (even though I do have a few JB cases - lol)

huh - never thought of that.

I don't use them. Tried it once & found them to be an unnecessary PIA. Fumbling with gadgets & accessories doesn't appeal to me. In 30yrs of playing the game, I cannot recall a single time JP's would have saved my cue from damage. They do look cool, though, especially when they match the cue.

These are my cheap cues, imagine what I have on my expensive cues.

I had one Cue and shaft fall out of a case that wasn’t closed all the way and the joint protectors hit the concrete first. I’ve had them on every Cue since.

Whether or not you "need" them is a personal preference. I wouldn't be without them.
I make my own usually. I really like some that real cuemakers make, it can add a whole
other dimension of artistry to your cue, some are really cool
