OK here's a question for all you who have played with a Josey cue. With the cue market the way it is, I would like to hear your opinion of what you thought of them. Everything from craftmanship, to how they played, to whatever else you can think of.

I've done some research, and found a few threads from people who have just gotten a Josey and liked it, but I'm hoping to hear from the people who have played with one for a LONG time, or had several and what they thought. Also any additional things that played into their decision like an aftermarket shaft, or a certain ferrule/tip combo.

I'm also looking to hear from players who had a Josey and didn't like it - What was the reason?

**Please Note: I respect the fact that some here would rather not post negative comments. If that is the case, PLEASE PM ME, and I promise that information goes NO FURTHER THAN ME!

I'm not looking for anybody to bash ANY cue maker, much less someone as respected as Keith Josey. It's just that no cuemaker makes a cue that EVERYONE likes. That's why I would like to hear the good, bad, and ugly.

These are ALL just opinions. Besides, maybe what you hated about a cue is exactly what somebody else is looking for? That doesn't make somebody's cue bad. It just means it wasn't the right fit for you.

Thanks again for your help!

I don't own a Josey, but have known Keith for many years. He builds a good cue. We were both displaying at the Southern Cue and Case Show this weekend and I can tell you one thing for sure. He did not have any ugly cues. They all looked real good.

I have had my Josey for a month now. I waited 4 months to get it and had to send it back due to some quality issues with the blank. However Keith fixed the imperfections with some inlays and I had it back within a week. The hit is very heavy I feel I am always hitting things to hard. I am still getting the hang of it. This is my first custom cue and I don't think I will ever go production again. I figure I will need to get used to this one. I can move the cue ball around the table with very little effort which is different for me. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase and I would order another.

I've had 3 Josey's, all were the "full splice" style, some may call it "sneaky pete" style (2 level 3's and 1 level 2), 2 were coco and one purple heart. They all were definite players, all had great, solid feel to them. I'm quite sure it was the "full splice" construction method that made em' feel so solid. Some like his more modern look of full splice (inlays) and some prefer the plain house cue look, but I've never heard a bad word about the playability of any of his "full splices". I can't comment on his regular "a" jointed cues as I never hit one. Hope this helps.

Good question about the long term satisfaction with a Josey. It takes into account the so-called "honeymoon" effect that a new piece of equipment can cause, especially w/ something as righteous looking as a new Josey. It will be interesting to see the feedback.

OK ,This can cause me alot of grief. but i will step out because i feel soo strongly about this!
I would put keiths cues in the top1% here is why
playability top notch! consistant!there is only one other cue maker that is as consistant as keiths ( meaning that no matter the materials used they play the same Great! a) from cue to cue.providing the cue is not taken somwhere to have tapers changed or diff tips or weight changed!!
very low deflection
quiet, but extremly solid so you feel what the ball is doing off the tip.
there is prolly 2000 cuemakers outn there and his play is in the top 10 in my book.
also one of the nicest upright guys out there!
feel assured buying his product you will not be dissappointed

Bill,

Those are strong words, but with as many cues as you've seen, I'm sure you know what you're talking about. Thanks for the input.

Oh, and I did pull the trigger and order a cue from Keith. While it won't be the most elaborate cue, it will be a one of a kind. Wait until you see this one!

Thanks again!

I have seen two of his not so Sneaky Sneaky petes, and both were very nice solid hitting cues. As most no I am not a fan of CNC milling in cues, but while both of these were made in this manner I could certainly play with them and from the two I have seen I would recommend them. The shaft wood was nice, and they were all Finished very well.

Hope this helps

Bill,
Keith wanted me to convey his thanks for the gracious words you said about his cues.....he also wanted me to thank everyone else for their comments as well......

I'd like to say a big thanks to all that posted here, too. Because of you guys, I have placed an order with Keith!

Don't worry, I'll post pics of the cue when it's done. Suffice to say, it won't be your *typical* Josey cue!!!!

Thanks again!

josey cue

i got my josey yesterday and played last night.
i do not know what i should say about this cue. i would like to say i hate it becasue it is such a perfect cue. i cannot find anything i do not like. i will put some pics later. the purple heart wood is so beautiful like a god's work. in fact, it is. i even like the smell of the timerless shaft. the finish is so slid and everything is just perfect. the cue is amazing to play. i feel my control of cue ball got better right away. the effort of spin is so great that i do not need to put very much on cue ball will get satisfied result. and so easy to control. and now, i do not have any excuse to blame cue which makes me play badly, only reason is myself. somebody may not believe this, i would say if you cannot feel this cue which means you are not reached this level.
