Joss Finale - Who's going

JAM said:
Congratulations and thanks are in order to Joss Tournament Director Mike Zuglan. He has worked for quite some time trying make the Turning Stone Casino happen for the Joss Tour, and his hard work and dedication has paid off. This trip is going to be a highlight on the tournament trail, and I can't wait to get on the road in less than 2 weeks and leave this D.C. work grunge behind me. Win or lose, this is going to be non-stop fun.

Long live the Joss Tour. Thanks, Mike Zuglan, for making this event a reality for me and mine! :)

I couldn't agree more. Mike Z is a class act who runs a phenonemal tournament.
I'd buy you a drink if they sold them but I guess I'll have to settle on giving you one of my carry-alongs :D

We'll be bringing a stash of brewskies, as will many of the others who like to indulge in the spirits. The Turning Stone Casino does not prohibit one from bringing their own, but I think you have to pour it in a cup or a glass and not walk around with a beer bottle.

I don't drink alcohol, but if you can find me a cappie, triple shot, I'll be in heaven! BTW, one of the Turning Stone restaurants is a buffet style, and it was excellent, not the usual vegetables out of a can. It was fresh, excellent cuisine with a variety of choices ranging from seafood, Italian, Chinese, but the all-you-can-eat prime rib was absolutely delicious. :p

Here's a great snapshot of the locals from my neck of the woods at the Turning Stone Casino: UPA Touring Pro Mike Davis, Ryan "Genie Man" McCreesh, and Keith. :)

If I know what it is, I could certainly try :-)

What is a cappie?

LOL. I had forgotten that y'all New Englanders enjoy the Dunkin Donuts brand. A cappie is an expresso drink, and my favorite is a triple-shot skim grande latte, one pump of sugar-free vanilla, topped off with whipped cream. YUMMIE! :D

I am a coffee connoisseur, and when on the road I'm always searching for a place to get my fix. In New England, the favorite coffee place is Dunkin Donuts, according to the locals. In Ohio region, Tim Horton's Coffee seems to be popular. In D.C., Starbucks has a monopoly on the coffee shops. Downtown D.C., there's two Starbucks stores right across the street from each other.

On the tournament trail, I always look for the mom-and-pop coffee joints, which are usually the best if you can find them.

I'll be bringing my secret stash of ground-up coffee beans from Whole Foods. This coffee is my favorite, only $10.99 per pound, and the name of it is "Pleasant Morning Buzz." I have a feeling with the non-stop action at Turning Stone, I'm most definitely going to need a pleasant morning buzz! :D

Update on Starbucks in DC

JAM,
There are four starbucks within two blocks of my office. There are also a total of 6 if I go two more blocks outside of that. I heard that Mayorga Coffee in Silver Spring and Bethesda is really nice. You should check it out.

Just curious what is the entry fee for this tournament ?

Is there any requirements to be meet or is an open ?

I believe it was a graduated entry fee based on how many events you played in. If you haven't played in any, it was $335.

Ah ha! Probably a Starbucks thing :)

Who are these locals you speak of?
If they are on the South Shore then Marylou's is by far, the best coffee around. :D

Yeah- you complain about your lack of statehood, blah blah blah...but you forget to mention that you don't even have to go across the street to buy your crack (well, I meant star$s, but the same is probably true for the rock kind too...).

Closest Star$s to my work is almost 1mile away. Virtually unobtainable!

Thanks for that, so want to play in this! Have to see how Big Apple goes, can't play in them all I guess! :-(

I spoke to Mike Zuglin a week ago. I thought he said he was going to stick to 100 players. Better call him now.

I won't know until after the Big Apple event so I know its prob too late. I spoke to Mike before I went to Asia and he made it clear I needed to enter before Aug but I couldn't commit that early so its my fault if I don't make it. I only got excited when JAM said 105 entires as I thought Mike ahd said he will restrict it to 128. I thought there might still be spots next week, if unlikely.

Thanks anyway and I may give him a call to find out the latest

Hi, Pete! :) I spoke to Mike yesterday, or was it the day before? Man, I've got that Friday burn-out syndrome and need a break! (LOL) :D

At any rate, Mike Zuglan is shooting for 128 players. As of the last time I spoke to him, there were THREE available slots. Many players gave their entry fees to him on the Joss tournament trail months ago, thanks to Mike's suggestion. I'm glad I paid Keith's entry fee to Mike when we were at a Joss event earlier this year.

There are some tournaments when one can pay an entry fee upon arrival, but this one is a little different. I may be wrong, but I believe when the tournament commences on August 18th, it will be a full field of 128 players.

Just a word of warning, Mike Zuglan is a stickler for having the monies in his hand before he writes your name down on the players list. He doesn't go by word of mouth due to past history of players' promises (LOL). It may not be too late to call him and find out if you can overnight the entry fee to him.

Without a doubt, this is going to be a premier tournament, $25,000 added, and some of the toughest action I've seen gathered under one roof in a long time. Be there or be square! :p

Hi Jam,
I sent Mike my entry about a week ago. He had only a few spots left open. Some of us were left off the list of players, since it hasn't been updated.

I will have a booth set up selling cues (Highendcues). Stop by and check it out.. My Website will be completely redone in the next 2 weeks. My webmaster has been fired. I never added anymore cues because of my disappointment with his work... I'll let everyone know when it's done..
Best,
Ken
