Ebay auction describes it as 68-72.

Can anyone tell if it is or not? The JOSS logo appears to be slanted but its hard to tell from the picture posted. Anything else pictured indicate its a stroud?
I think if there is doubt about one of these cues, being a Stroud period cue or not, then the seller is going advertise it as a 68-72 rather than a later 70's spliced JOSS. But then again, I am cycincal about Ebay these days.

I have no idea

 I don't like this add at all. Shel8 gives you pictures of two shafts and they don't match. Doesn't show you the joint of the butt to see, if they match one of the shafts?

Sale listed as: Antique Vintage Joss Cue 5 Shafts Collector Pool $2400

I am very Leery of this one, because the whole thing don't add up to the price he wants, need picture/s of the other 3 other shafts. You think the seller would know more about selling that kind of item correctly.

Just my thought’s on the topic.

A picture of the joint would be nice in a high end cue ad. A real nonchalant ad if you ask me. Stroud cue or not?..... I can't say.

Two shafts have been turned. Normal play?

The Blue Book cleary shows that Stroud never used the block Joss logo. He always used the initials JW. He was a partner with Dan Janes in Baltimore from 1968 to 1972. After that he went on his own.

He used the initials after he split with Joss. When he was with Joss the JOSS logo was slanted. After he left JOSS Dan Janes changed the logo to be upright, blocked. I dont have the blue book in front of me but I believe that is how you can identify a 68-72 JOSS that Bill would have worked on.

i believe that could have been a cue that bill stroud may have built while he was parteners with dan janes.. as for the auction.. if its legit.. that is another question...

When I bid, if there are questions of the legitimacy of an auction, I will email the seller and ask for a couple of really specific pictures of the cue. That way, you can at least confirm whether or not the person listing the item has the item in hand. If they can't produce the pictures, I'd be real leary of the deal. Ask for a picture of the joint only, or the shaft inserts, something like that.

As far as the JOSS logo, its hard to tell in that one picture. I would ask a close-up of the butt. You will kill two birds with one stone that way.

Ask the seller to email you clearer, more detailed pics of logo, shafts, butt, joint, etc. If they send them, post them on here so folks can have a better idea of the vintage and make a reasonable assumption from those. If they won't send more pics, I would not trust that things are as stated, JMHO.

Is there an echo in here!

Hey Cuenut...great idea (I knew I got that idea from somewhere:D ). I guess I should read all the posts first, but great minds think alike!

Hey, misterpoole. Did you get a chance to search for info on that other Joss cue I PM'd you about - with the flag pattern in the sleeve?
