Can anyone recommend a hotel that is within a mile or two of Spot Shots? Just trying to get an idea of what's up there so I can book in advance.

Thanks,
Dave

P.S. Any Azers going I'm heading up Saturday and Sunday.

Hi Dave,

I'm arriving Wednesday evening in Portland. Being somewhat frugal, I like staying at Motel 6's. There is one at Riverside Street and Route 95. It is about two miles from the pool room. My reservation is $36.00 per night for the four nights. See you there!

Koop, don't put down too much non-refundable money on reservations for that event.

There could be an announcement coming from Mike Z. soon.

Mike,

Thanks for the update. Do you happen to know if they are looking at using the same dates?

I think it will probably be different dates. I am hearing about something possibly in August.

ummer I was thinking about this one, oh well nice to know. Anyone know if the hard times summer jamboree is happening this year and if so any info?

I'm sorry to hear about the cancellation of Spot Shots. It's a GREAT place to play pool, and the tournament held there last year was absolutely WONDERFUL! Danny "Kid Delicious" Basasvich won the event: JAM's pics of Joss Tour Season Finale 2004

I sure do hope there are not tournament scheduling conflicts.

The Orlando Open is being held in August 3-7, 2005, at Disneyland. Check out the website: http://www.OrlandoOpen.com

The Hilton-sponsored NAOT is having two $10,000-added 9-ball events in Arizona on August 14-21, 2005.

Most players truly desire the opportunity to attend as many events possible. Hopefully, August will be one fine month for pool: Joss Season Finale, Orlando Open, and the NAOT. :)

JAM, another item in the rumor mill is that the NAOT stop may not be a pro event.

You know, I think this may be a GOOD thing for the NAOT (IMO). Pro tournaments don't seem to attract the crowds like the amateur events. I wish the NAOT every bit of success. This is one of the best things that has happened to pool in recent times.

I also heard about an item in the rumor mill that the Big Apple, which used to occur in August in New York City, has been cancelled.

If only there could be ONE central tournament registry for players, tournament directors, promoters, and organizers, it would be a win-win for all parties involved (IMO).

In checking out the AzBilliards Home Page tournament schedule, there are quite a few tournaments occurring in the month of August!

DAMMIT!

Would be nice if Mark Ransom of Renaissance could have it there. Nice little 15 minute ride for me but that's just being selfish...

I heard the same, JAM, but can't confirm it's true, but I'm very disappointed. Apparently, the World Summit of Pool will remain on the September UPA calendar, so not all is lost, but this is a setback for the NYC pool fan.

Perhaps I can find a way to make it to the Men's Challenge of Champions, generally in August at Mohegan Sun, to help fill the void that this has created.

Or as it would more often be referred to in Massachusetts, a "package store" or "packy". :D

IMHO it is a pretty good bet Mark will have at least some involvement in pool.

No reason he couldn't sneak one more Joss Event in as a parting gift. Koop, you're up there a lot go work on him.

Steve,

My buddy Matt is doing some electrical work for him so maybe I'll tell him to make an offer he can't refuse :-)

Mike,

Matt just told me this last night. It really is too bad but this was a joint venture and I don't think things worked out as planned. What the hell, maybe I'll buy the place and host my own damn Joss events. If I only had the pot that goes with the saying..
