[Hello AZ!
I am looking for some help with this Cue I picked up. The guy told me his dad won it in the 70's in a pool tourney in San Diego. Its kinda beat up but I love it and want more info on it. My plan is to have it refinished if possible. Any info you all can provide would be awesome! Sorry not used to taking pictures of Cues. If ya'll need better ones let me know. Thank you IMG][/IMG]

That JW looks like a strange one.

Here's why.

The logo on the butt appears to be an older JW with the sideways W. These were the 70's cues, and they had spliced points. The points on this cue appear to be Bill's later style or technique of inlayed points.

I am wondering if buttcap matches the cue.

I have owned tons of JW cues, and never had one with that buttcap with inlayed points. Obviously, there could be some transition times between, but it strikes me as a little odd.

As far as a refinish, I would use Ryan at Meullers, or Scot at Proficient. Both do excellent work, and are more reasonable on pricing and delivery.

Best of rolls,

Ken

This cue may of been made after the move to Colorado Springs, even though the logo has the sideways-W.
I thought the same thing but I have seen other odd JW logo & butt cap issues coming out of Colorado springs, when the cue was all original.

Thanks everyone. It looked weird to me also but I was convinced it was a Josswest. Im happy to hear confirmation.
Bill,
Do you happen to know the Model and approximate value?

When you have it refinished, you can also have the logo re-inked. It should show up better. After the refinish, I would estimate the value at $1000 - $1200.

AFTER the refinish, I agree.

Assuming you have two full sized shafts.

If you are needing new shafts along with the refinish, I recommend Rick Howard, as his work is excellent and he has made me many great shafts for old JW cues.

Very good appraisal. It means if you want to sell it settle for 900!

People want sharp points. I sold a few JW s with inlaid buttsleve fir 1200 or less due to rounded outer points.

It's a nice cue. Enjoy it.

Well, if bill said it's his, i cant refute. Bill has met me many times,ie, Cheyenne Pete's, denver open ,on &ON. THE W ,YO ME ,EVEN IN THE 70S LOOKS ODD.
BILL, NO DISRESPECT, BUT THAT'S WHEN I WAS GETTING YOUR CUES. GUESS THE MEMORY ISNT AS WELL. EVERYTHING ELSE LOOKS LIKE A JOSS,BAR NONE.
THIS AFTER DANNY MOVED EAST? HECK,I WAS LIVING IN DENVER OFF & ON BACK THEN.
HOPE TO CATCH YA SOON. LIVING IN ABILENE TX NOW DAYS. NOT TOO FAR AWAY. ADIOS B.S.
