I'm pretty psyched about my new JW. It's a 1970's with green veneers, ivory boxes with mother of pearl barbells on the butt. It looks to be ivory anyway. Has 3 shafts with ivory ferrules, only one is an original shaft though. 21 oz and 57 1/2 inches in length. Old school heavy feel to it. I'm diggin' it.
I'm not sure who did the refinish but it wasn't Proficient. I've had 4 cues done by them and this looks a little different.
I tried to fit my 5/16 x 14 jps on there and it didn't work. Doesn't anyone know if JW used a different pin?

The joint looks like 5/16x18. I've heard that Bill Stroud has used different joint pins on request. Looking that all that ivory and MOP, this cue in general appears to have been a special request.

Thanks for that Mamono, I think you are right.
Anyone else agree before I go out and buy JPs?
Thanks.

If you have any friends in your area that shoot with a cue that has a 5/16x18 joint, just test thread a shaft onto the cue to see if it threads ok? There are also thread gauges at general hardware stores that can be used to confirm this also; though, it really does look like a 5/16x18, IMHO.

You could buy some inexpensive delrin joint protectors like these before investing in custom joint protectors.

Then when you go the pool hall, use the delrin joint protectors and keep the custom joint protectors at home. Quite easy to loose joint protectors in those dark pool halls!

Thanks Russ. I can't tell if I really dig it yet because the tip is like a rock. I'm a softy.
Are you going down to the Hardtimes Tournament?

Very nice cue, I really like the ivory windows, getting one with them soon. Show it off in the cue gallery, alot of cue lovers there.

Your right Lenny, I should have posted to the cue gallery. I'm kinda new to this site...only 1643 posts! lol

I will be at HT's tomorrow afternoon. Probably around 3 or 4.

And then again on Sunday for the finals.

Hope to see you there!!

Very nice JW you have there. Im a sucker for barbells and traditional styled cues. What difference do you notice between this refinish and a refinish done by Scott Sherbine?

There is not a huge difference with this refinish and the Proficient refinish. The wrap seems like better material than the Proficient refinish. I've refinished 4 cues with Proficient and have been happy each time.
