Just got home from Las Vegas where the BCA held their trade show and the Billiard Education Foundation held the JR. National 9-ball tournament. Both of my boys played, one in the 14 and under ( he is 12 ) and one in the 15-18 ( he just turned 15 last week ). we had a great time and the level of play with these young men and women is very exciting. there were over 100 players and there were both young men's and young ladies events. this was our first experience with the JR. program but we are already planning on attending next years event in Chicago.
The BCA was nice enough to let us in to trade show and we were able to purchase some things. we had a great time and the future of pool is stronger than I had thought.

tommyhill...It was nice to meet you today! I look forward to having you be part of our PBIA/SPF Certified Instructor program. We need all the instructors we can get...especially to reach out to young people like those that were in Las Vegas this week!

I was hoping someone would mention the Jr Nationals. Watched a few of the matches and was very impressed with the play and how "professional" the tournament looked.
Great job.

if you do a search for billiard education foundation and go to their website there will be a click here button right by the JR. Nationals listing. they show the tournament boards for all four brackets.
Scott I am looking forward to working with you next weekend and in the future.

The show blocked off access to the floor last two days for some reason. I heard the BCA president talking to someone on the phone about a vendor complaining there were kids around his area. Kids who's parents buy equipment and kids who will eventually start buying their own equipment. At least he was saying that it was a silly thing to complain about so that is a bonus, he was looking at it correctly as these are the people that will be funding the industry and giving purchase advice to their friends.

Let's not let the people that buy your product near you, that will help sales I'm sure. I have not seen any vendor's complain about kids being around their area, many of them had their tables constantly in use by the kids, and they had people stopping to watch them play. The OB booth with Dechaine and the Imperial booth with Van Boening were well attended by the kids. OB also donated a break cue or two last year to the kids for prices. Guess whos shafts I recommend to people?

I'd rather the BEF went back to having the event in pool rooms or alongside the BCAPL/USAPL tournament, all the kids I know liked that setup better.

On a sad note, after we got back from the trip, my bag was missing along with my son's cues.
