That's in the wood, correct? In other words, that's not an imperfection, but nature. That wouldn't bother me in the least! Love butterflies, by the way!

yes sir it's in the curly maple
it bothers the person the cue is for, however i did show it to him ,
because like you, some folks wouldnt see it as a flaw
but this one is pretty bad to me too

new shooter

Looks like Brent's got a new cue to play with when its finished, until someone buys it from him.lol.... Looks beautiful to me.. build on!

Guess the main problem is it may look like an imperfection from distance - that wouldn't bother me if I were the owner, but it would if were the maker. But I'm hyper-pedantic, so…

nah, just going to make another buttsleeve
already in the works as we speak

Thankfully no.

:barf: That's how i'd have felt if it were ivory LOL

I can see Brent's POV. I have a P/J with a maple handle that revealed a mineral spot & the cue will now not be finished for the buyer. I have to build an entirely new cue. The first cue will get sold to somebody who doesn't mind the natural characters of the wood. I don't see it as flaws. But some do. Some day i'm going to build a cue entirely from aesthetically "defected" woods. It'll look great in a P/J where the defects can be shown off. But in a cue like Brent's, the mark does indeed hinder the design.

Why don't you turn it into a nice butterflied jump break cue? A JB cue can have an imperfection. It's going to get beat up anyway.

Greg
