Just Curious about the Elephant Ear

I posed this question on another thread but saw no response, so I figured I'd just ask outright. How are elephant ears obtained....do they come from legaly harvested game, deseased zoo animals, or 3rd world no questions asked providers. I realize India and some other countrys utilize elephants as heavy equipment, and I suppose most of these wraps would come from such sources. It would then follow that these wraps would come from the Indian species rather than the African. I sincerly hope I am correct in this assumption. Any of you exotic skin providers that would care to chime in, your account would be appreciated.....Dan

The elephants take up an annual ear collection for cue and case makers. I hear some are also obtained by elephants that have to hock their ears to buy peanuts...;)

i have shot 14 elephants,

most of the skin used for cases, wraps. are panals from other parts of the elephants. I have butched lots of elephants and know lots about elephants. Search my posts on elephants not gonna re-write them again, there are lots of them.

There are more than enough elephants in Africa to last our life time. Its state of affairs in Asia with the elephants they need protection.

I can see some people cringing right now....:grin-square:
Hey Eric, What calibers have you used while hunting elephant?...my buddy and I were talking about it, and he has witnessed a hunt on television where a man killed one with a bow...really?

I'm sure elephant shooting is a true test of marksmanship......akin I suppose to hitting the broadside of the proverbial barn. They must also be extreemly tasty for you to have butchered 14 of them. I will defer to your knowledge of African Elephant population numbers, seems rather strange though that the local authorities do not agree with your assessment. I've read other posts of yours and feel this one was intended to be humorous rather than informative.......hope you find some humor in this reply as well.....Dan

this is a good question. I was wondering the same thing because I was recently faced with the decision to go Elephant ear wrap or Bulls hide and I chose bull.
I like elephants but my girlfriend loves them and would probably have a fit if I had an elephant ear wrap

I can relate.. In the late 80's I had a cool pair of grey Tony Llama elephant boots. I made the mistake of telling my girlfriend at the time what they were made of when she asked. Big mistake...
I t took me the whole next week to convince her I was kidding and that they were fake.
What I am trying to say is..good call going with the bull hide.

haha thats hilarious bro, I envisioned the same turn of events as I was trying to make a choice

The ears come from depressed, mentally ill, post-impressionist elephant artists. The elephant artists cut them off themselves with a sharp piece of flint. It is all very tragic.
