I have been practicing after work every day about 3hrs and playing 5-6hrs on Fr night 4-5hrs each day on sat and sun...I didnt do too well in this past weekends tournaments but last night we had our weekly pool league..a friend I used to play pool with back in 1994 is home for holidays came to watch and play some. Our league on monday nights is 8 ball, we have 3 people on each team and you play each person once, then you do scotch doubles against the other team.. well, I was feeling really good and as confident as I ever have...i ran 2 racks of 8ball 3rd rack guy broke and pocketed 2 balls i got up and ran out.

After our match, me and my friend played 9 ball on the bar table, there was about 7 people standing around watching us and talking to us....I got up to break and I ran 7 racks of 9ball. Thats the absolute best I have ever done and I just about SHAT  myself after I did it. Everyone was just in total disbelief, including myself.

I quit playuing pool in 1994 and I didnt pick up a cue till June of this year..and I have only been playing maybe 2-3hrs a week till about the first week of Dec when I started practicing alot. My personal best is running 5 racks of 9ball back in 1994. Anyways....just had to get that of my chest....I guess the stars were aligned last night

7 racks......7 racks is a HUGE deal....congrats amigo.....looks like Christmas came early :D

My best is a 4 pack, so I am truly jealous....

fair play mate nice to know the hard work paid off. i'm gonna be embarking on a schedule similar to yours come the new year so that was an encouraging post!

Practice definately paid off...I practice alot of really hard cut shots and it def paid off last night. You have to be totally into the game and in the right frame of mind.....and definately have to know what your cue ball is going to do and where its going to go...and put the cue ball as close to your work as you can. Try and use natural english as much as possible..as opposed to drawing the cue ball halfway up the table..I just felt right and was in a right frame of mind..stance, being comfortable...stroke, follow through on your shot.....EVERYTHING has to be perfect in order to do that....That being said...I am going to play again tonight and I probably wont be able to make a ball:thumbup:

Red rep for failing to get out on the 8th rack.

Just kidding! Awesome, truly awesome.

Congratulations, that's some fantastic pool.

Can you be more specific about all the practice you did? I see you said you shot a lot of tough cuts, but what else did you do? Play the ghost, run drills, etc.?

Honestly..i set up my dvd camcorder on the tripod ( i asked the pool hall owners) for maybe 2-3 minutes..i got in a comfortable stance, and just stroked the cue (im sure I looked silly as can be). And when I got home..I watched the video and seen what I needed work on.

Then I would just line up some balls and shoot straight in shots, then moved to cut shots progressing into putting a OBJ ball on rail at the headstring, and running it down the table into the far corner pocket.

then work on simple banks progressing into harder ones. i would set up 3-4 balls put up other balls and had to move around them to get to next object ball without hitting the blocking balls....i would set up same shot and shoot it where i could use natural english, then set it up where i had to make my english work around object balls.

i would also break one after another rack....trying to practice and control the QB as best as I could. This was hardest for me to do...I eventually got pretty consisten in breaking the rack open, and leaving my QB approx in center of table.(this obviously didnt happen 100% of the time)

I practiced my draw shot and got to where I could draw it straight back and put it on a piece of paper most of the time from just about anywhere on the table..including drawing back and deflecting off a rail)

I had a plan I wrote up of things to work on in order and how long to work on them and I stuck to it.

And believe it or not..i actually had 5 minutes dedicated to practicing diff shots using a bridge. Simply because I sucked at using a bridge and i would always just not use a bridge simply because i was not confident with it.....

also practiced shots where QB was on the rail and bridging over another ball to hit QB because these would give me problems from time to time..

Then, i would take about 1 hr and just break and play the rack out. Then after this 2 hrs had passed, me and a local pool player that is always there to play golf on the snooker table with old guys would play for an hr or so... I would always be strict on the practice though..but when it came time to play someone...sometimes Don wasnt avail..so I would play the best player that was usually there...when I did this, i would ask that we palay a race to 21 for our time, or if they didnt have any money or wouldnt play for that, i would pay for our time.....
