More aptly, You're moving away from the toys and into real machinery. Once set up for cue work, which is light work for a lathe as this, it may be 20 or 30 years before you even have to buy a belt for it. I bought a new Enco lathe, similar to this one, and once getting set up and the bugs worked out, I haven't put .50 cents into it since. I'm still on the first quart of oil I bought for refilling the head and carriage. Many like to slam the Asian knock off lathes but they have given me nothing but good service for many years. All of my lathes are belt drive instead of gear so you'll have to get used to the extra noise and a little maintenance keeping the gears lubed as the lower end ones don't run in an oil bath but once you are in stride you'll love it. The D1-4 spindle nose is a great plus also as it makes changing from a 3-jaw to a 4-jaw a snap. Lucky You!!!

i like it.i can't wait to get mine.

doesn't the gun lathe have a different tailstock and set to tighter tolerances than the reat of their lathes?

Nice looking lathe

I didn't realize these guys made this nice of a setup.....they are located in my backyard here in Bellingham -- I'll have to go take a closer look at their stuff :) Hope you enjoy your new lathe! ;)

They advertize it as having a better tail stock.

The only difference in the two is one will except a 1/2" drive ratchet to accept a torque wrench. other than that its the exact same tail stock.. and even to some of the tech's I've talked to at grizzly they say the square head feature is more of a hassle than its worth..

Any reason why you went for the gear head instead of the 11 by 37 belt?

Grizzly makes some fine machines. I have one of their spiral cutterhead jointers. I was recently in Dale Perry's shop for some shaft work and every machine in his shop is Grizzly from what I could see.
