Justin Bergman looking to gamble

Earl wouldn't have taken a spot from anyone. Don't call yourself a pro if you do. Also, offering the 7? lol how often have you seen a pro get to the 7 and not out? It's a nothing spot...if anything its a disadvantage because you don't get into stroke as easily..let's see games on the wire.

Oh,my fault, i thought we were talking about current pool.earl wouldn,t ask for weight in the 80s and johnny in the 90s. Buddy in the 70s either, but that certainly doesn't mean any of them would win playing the pinoys. My POINT is that there are literally 100-200 players there that play as good or better than our top pros.they will never be seen or heard from in tournament pool because they are not allowed to get their travel visas and pursue a career as a touring pro. If you think the 7 doesn,t show up gambling on a 9 foot diamond, especially a tight one,you aren't very knowledgeable matching up gambling. Yes a pro would prefer to get games on the wire, but only if it's ENOUGH games to be a better spot than the 7.

If these players were that good they would make it here like Efren. Even the ones that are here aren't dominating anything anyway.

Is there a minimum bet? I'll take those 10 games going to 100 but I can only bet $300. I'm only kidding, I know it'd be a waste of your time, but great experience for me!

He might accept if you offered to come to him (maybe at Teachers in St. Louis), and play during his free time (if he has no better plans going on). $300 is $300, unless that is pennies to a player / gambler like him.

Justin has tried for several years to play Mike Dechaine, you can have him tell the stories. It's comical to say the least

Point is Mike won't play and no one is putting up the money for him to play because he is a dog in the game

What does that mean (a dog in the game?). I wonder why Skyler does not play Bergman with that spot offer? Would Skyler need more games on the big table (playing 10 ball) in a race to a 100?

Justin, in the old days, the Straight Pool Challenge matches were always a Race to 1,000 or even 1,500, divided up in blocks of 200 or 250 per day.
It's probably the one pool game that the old time champions were equally as good as the current top players. Mizerak and Sigel were beasts at 14.1 with Varner and Hopkins not far behind.

I wonder what their high runs were, in 14.1.

Yeah Jay they did a lot of things better back then. Race to 1,000 points that's a real pool match. Now we play bar table race to 5 or 7 in the biggest events... Guy pockets 22 balls and the match is over... Break dry or get hooked on the 1 ball and that's half the set... It really is a crap shoot.

The short races (to 5 or 7) are usually alternating breaks, in the big open bar table tournaments, I assume (right?). That is really tough. You have to really be on your game, and play perfect to get through the tournament. You may even have to have a little bit of luck (with the rolls on your side). Nobody can have perfect rolls all of the time. Have to hope for a little bit of luck sometimes, right?

I was trying to talk Justin Collett into a thousand point straight pool match on TAR....
...he didn't think it would fly.
But the best stream match I've seen all year was the race to 40 one pocket with Chohan
and Orcullo....I think pool viewers are more sophisticated now.

Yeah, I think the viewers would much rather watch a good 1 pocket match. It is the most interesting game, I think. Straight pool is just very boring to watch, in my opinion.

I totally agree Justin. It makes sense today for a good player like you to prefer to play high dollar matches and long races. You can make a score by beating one player. Our friend Dennis would rather play matches like this than in any tournament. He would play one every week if he could get the action!

You might also consider playing long ahead sets, like ten or even fifteen ahead (8B, 9B, 10B). The best player will almost always win in this kind of match. I do think that a World Championship Ten Ball event with a similar format to the Bigfoot (all matches a Race to Eleven) would be a great way to find out who the very best players are. IMO this would be the best possible setting for a World Championship in this era of Pool.

Oh yeah, I agree. The big open tournaments should change to an "ahead" type of race (even if it is only something like 5 or 7 games ahead). That would be better then a race to 11, or 15, right? And it would show who the best player is. Only probably is that the tournament (128 player field) might take a month, lol. I do not know.

I would still prefer a 2 or 3 week long $50,000 or $100,000/man round robin race to 75 or 100. 6 players WU, Shane, Dennis, Chang JL, Shaw and baby KO or Alex. Winner take all
Jason

There was a tournament kind of like that some years ago in Canada. It was around 6 players (SVB, Alex P., Morra, Klatt, and I forget the others). They played like a race to 150 points, or something like that (9 ball, with each ball being worth 1 point, and the 9 worth 2 points), and I think it was a round robin type of tournament.

There are different types of people that hang around pool rooms. I totally understand that many feel that way, but all the pro would need is a handful of guys that feel my way. They're out there, that's a fact. They are definitely not the majority, but they're out there.

I remember being at the Expo one year a long time ago and people were lining up to pay $20 to shoot a game with the female pros. I believe a pro with a good personality would do just fine if he/she gave a little advanced notice to the cities they were traveling to.

Yeah, and I see that pool rooms host pros for this type of thing, from time to time. I see that Johnny Archer has come to Gate City Billiards here in Greensboro a few times, for challenge games ($10 a game). I do not know, but I imagine it was a big success for him, and Gate City Billiards. You just need a nice friendly Pro with a cool personality, and it should be a success.

Who's gonna pay for those 6 players to stay at a hotel for 2-3 weeks straight? Unless they're all crashing at a buddy's house.

Lol, that is a good point you make. Maybe if it were 30 or 40 years ago, when you could stay in a room for a few dollars a night, then it may have been workable. If only there were some millionaire that loved the idea enough to put the money up for hotel expenses (and then maybe the winner could give that person a % of the winnings, or at least their money back that was paid for the hotel rooms), then it might be doable.
