Kamui tips - never switching again....

I switched from Triangle to Kamui Medium Black about 6 months ago because I got tired of trying to always find a good Triangle. I have used them for 20 years and I love how they play, but they play different throughout their cycle.

Here is an example of the consistency of the Kamui tips....

Last night, I went over to Chris Nitti's house to get my one month prior to Derby tip change and I got two Kamui's done. I went down to the pool hall and chalked the tip and hit a few balls. It felt good so I set up a straight pool break shot and decided to get a little practice in.

My first attempt, I ran a 54, then I set it up again and ran a 112. I really only missed at that point because I was getting bored. My point is, these tips really do play well. I had minimal adjustment to make and I am shooting comfortably. I recommend them to everyone, although a couple one pocket spin shots do not work well.

Just my opinion if you can run 112 with a Kamui you could run 112 with a Triange, Le Pro etc. The tip didn't run the balls you did. Give yourself some credit. :) Nice job!

I switched to a Kamui as well about a month ago, black soft (I've used a Sniper since 2003). I don't know if that alone is the reason, but I have been playing very consistent since I switched.

John Bertone, the North American supplier is a great guy who really hustles. It's easy to support him because the product is jam up.

I tried the regular medium when they first came out, and was unimpressed. It was mushy, and felt like slapping the ball with a wet sponge. Recently, a buddy of mine who makes cues locally said he had some of the black tips in, and that I should try the soft (they do indeed have their rating system off of the norm. Their soft is like a medium etc).
I have played moori medium tips for years, and never figured on changing. But Ill tell you, the black kamuis are SUPER consistant. The hit is very close to that of a solid leather tip. They hold chalk well, and havent mushroomed or lost shape at all. Im very impressed with this tip to say the least. Im sold on them.

I used Everest for a while and liked them, switched to a Kamui Black Soft and will never go back.

We are happy to know that our endless research is working. We are not slapping tips together and shooting them out the door... Your experience in the consistency and the playability is from our non stop R&D. I have told some of you about the QC check list our leather goes through. (if you saw it, it would make you sick)

But, tips are not the only thing we are working on... (stay tuned)

Check out the Kamui Gator Grip. All tips experience this, it just takes a little longer to happen to a Kamui but easy to fix. This tool is hand made and will last you a very long time.

I switched to a Kamui Black medium a few months ago and purchased a Gator Grip as well. I've gotta tell you its night and day from playing with anything else. I never thought a tip would make a huge difference but I'm not sure I could go back to anything else now.

I really wasn't displaying that run, merely trying to show how consistent Kamui tips are. I have run 100 with many different tips.. :)

They will glaze, but I'm beginning to think that's just an attribute of layered tips in general. The Sniper I have on now starts to glaze about every month or so, and I only play 1 or 2 times a week, probably a total of 20-30 hours a month.

I agree wholeheartedly. I had a medium soft installed one year ago. Next, will consider a Black soft or SS.
 
I couldn't agree more

I had a Kamui Brown wear out and was to lazy and cheap to drive 50 miles and pay the money for a new Kamui and tried to go back to an Everest with my local dealer. Man I hated it for the entire two days I played with it. Thinking "How could I ever have liked this tip?". I happily drove to the poolroom with the best mechanic around and had the tip installed. As soon as I hit a ball I remembered what I liked about the Kamui...I will never switch back as long as they remain consistent...:smile:
 
Similar story, I tried the brown MS and it was ok. When it wore out I put a black soft on. Immediately I knew it was perfect. Since then I've replaced every tip on all my shafts I use.

If you get the gator grip it will easily solve the glaze problem. Takes about 10 seconds to scuff it up. My only issue is it was a little expensive, which is ok as long as it lasts a while. I guess I'll see how it holds up in the future.
 
I used triangles for many years. I loved them, but way back they were harder and now they seem softer.

I switched to Kamui Black last year and haven't looked back. I believe in this tip so much, that is the only layered tip I offer in my shop.
