Kamui vs. Sniper

Here's is another comparison post to go along with the other Kamui vs. Moori tip post. I feel that Sniper's are a bit harder, so this might be a better comparison.

In my humble opinion, Sniper's are the tip to beat. I'm wondering if anybody out there has tried both (maybe an A/B test on the same cue), and what their thoughts were.

Thanks!

I prefer the Kamui H over the Sniper all day. Sniper is a great tip I just prefer the Kamui. JMHO.

i havnt tried the kamui but i have a sniper, and i think sniper shoots really good

Anybody like the Kamui over the softer (Med or Slow) Moori tips?

Those are close as far as grip, but I think the Sniper is still feels harder.

I've had a Sniper on my cue for around a year now and I'm going to switch over to Kamui med/soft next week to give them a try. I don't really know why I'm switching because I really like the Sniper... just want to try something new I guess. Snipers are great and I swear they last waaayy longer than any other tip that I've had before. Sorry I can't offer a comparison just yet but I'll let you know in the near future.

Dakota... what new cues do you have in the works?

IMO Kamuis are the best tips I have ever played. I loved the 1st gen Moori Slows, but the Kamuis are more consistent, don't glaze over, and play fantastic. I do not know of one person who has put a Kamui on their cue and not loved it.

Can someone spell Kamui the way it is pronounced? Ive only read about them, but I have never heard someone say it.

I've played with Moori, Le Pro, Sniper, Triangle, Kamui...and many others...and the best tip so far is the Kamui. I'm using a Kamui medium on an OB-1 and couldn't be happier. That combo is the best I've found. Like others, I think the Sniper felt "harder" and the Kamui produces far less miscues than the Sniper. The Kamui is about 6 months old and hasn't mushroomed or delaminated or...

That is great news since I just had Mike Webb put one on each of my Universal Shafts. Really looking forward to playing with them.

i did love the Kamui for the first 50 hours of play then it just got hard and felt terrible, so i switched to a elk master in germany i havent used it alot maybe 10 hours and am happy so far.

I'm one of those. I really liked the Kamui Med. on my Gilbert for the first 30 hours or so, then it became really hard. I shaped off a layer or two and it didnt help at all. I then bought a Mottey and had a Sniper put on. I like the sniper way more. I know its not comparing apples to apples, but Its all I got right now.

i'm into elk Master tip now I gave up on oll the others.

Me too! Tried all the laminated tips and didn't like em. Have a Jensen on the way so now I'll find out what the Mild Duds are like.

I grew up playing with Elk Masters.... when I was a kid I didn't even know they made other tips. Maybe one day I'll go back to them...

I had a new Kamui soft installed on one 314-2 Predator shaft and a new Sniper on the other at the same time. (Same type of shaft)

Nothing wrong with the Kamui and nothing wrong with the Sniper. The Kamui soft is just a touch softer than the Sniper, but not as much as I would have thought. According to my info, the Kamui med soft is closest to the Sniper in hardness. For me, the Kamui needed a good scuffing in about the same amount of time the Sniper did. Bottom line is that there really isn't an extreme amount of difference between the two tips.

I would call it a draw. If you're happy with the Sniper, then I would say stick with it. If you're one of those people that just likes to try something new, then try a Kamui, but I don't think you'll be blown away by the difference.

The 2 I have coming up are a Steel Jointed Klein (very simple, but classy), and a 6 point Olney (VERY sharp looking). Unless somebody convinces me otherwise, I'm going to have Sniper's on both of these cues.

Please let me know what you find out with the switch. I'd be very interested in hearing your opinion!

This is Moori/Kamui comparison I'm looking for, too. It seems like the Moori Slow's were the closest in cueball "Grip" to the Sniper's, where the Moori Mediums were about the closest in feel.

Jamie, were these the Kamui's you used the Medium Soft or Soft?

Also, have you ever tried a Sniper tip?

Thanks for the input so far guys!

I've been doing an extensive tip comparison for the past year, looking for the perfect tip for my desired feel. At the present, my shafts are loaded with a Moori III med., Moori III quick, Sniper and Kamui Med. IMO, the Moori med., Kamui Med. and Sniper are so close in performance it's a draw. I personally like a slightly harder tip, and tried the Kamui med. because I read here it was slightly harder than the Moori med. Not so IMO. Moori Q is my personal choice so far. Kamui H and Hercules H are next on the trial list.

I'm one of the haters, too. Every Kamui that I have put on my cues has ended up cut of, and has been replaced by either a pressed Triangle, or a tried-and-true Le Pro. I think laminated tips have more risk than reward - more miscues, and really no promise of better feel or increased spin. I find the most accurate tips I've used are the harder one piece tips. And, you can't beat a buy price of 60 cents.
