Kansas city

Matlock and I have played a few times in the past. I've not seen him in probably 20 years so I would say, yes - David likely is getting old and can't see so well these days (but then again he might be lucky).

I'm not sure but what David and I didn't lock up on a snooker table when we were both just sprouts up at Rolla, Mo about 1968. I know David played there as a kid and the kid I played was already dern good. He used to run around with some guys from Joplin and I think they were all in Springfield when I last played him. Somehow he got the idea he could whoop me at snooker, offered me a 15 point spot and the backers made him pull off after 1 game.

Last time I was at Shooters (and one of only a couple of times), I had gone to see the cue maker there at the time (might have been Mike Kinder?). Anyway, he was gone for the day so I decided to eat a sandwich then head back home. Wasn't much going on there anyway. I'm sitting there eating my sandwich, minding my own business, and two guys at a table nearby asked if I would like to play some snooker. I forget what I said but one of the guys offered me a 40 point spot for fifty. :grin-square: I think he might have made 6 or 7 points the first game. Next game even, and the last game I spotted him 40... easily. Sort of liked that place but it was just too far to drive there often. :)

Another good player up in the KC area is/was Steve Hassel. Nice guy and an excellent player. Steve is getting old too. Someone else will have to fill in the blanks about where Steve played there in KC... I'm thinking Raytown??

None of these stories are worth anything without your name.

I dont think Steve Hassell has ever gambled, to my knowledge. Only tourney's and leagues. Hasnt been playing much in past few years....

Yep. Steve played at Raytown Rec. He managed the place for many, many years. Haven't seen much of Steve lately, but last I did, he's still a heckuva nice guy and a helluva player.

No, haven't seen him gamble but don't know that he never did. He made himself turn white as a sheet playing against me in the 9-States tournament at Billiard's in Springfield one time. Dogged an easy nine and left it hanging in the corner, poor guy.

Friend of mine lived with Steve part of the time until cancer got to him also. Fellow named Calvin Yount also from Greenfield. He drove truck out of KC and somehow he and Steve wound up as roomies for awhile. Steve came down and helped Calvin's boy set up a snooker table in his workshop.

No, never heard of him. Are his stories just that or are they real pieces of his life?

Search his posts on here - you can learn a lot. Biggest gambler there ever was - played for $160K a game one pocket. Played every champion there ever was. Now that is gambling.

9 States Tournament (Ozark Mountain Championship) was a great tourney. I have a buddy (Joe Woolford) that won it one year, many years ago.

Yes, I was doing great that day and some guy accused me of intentionally bumping him as he stroked. I was snugged up against the wall talking to my wife in the seats and out of nowhere this guy is throwing a fit because I bumped him. I hadn't, but the episode queered my game. The guy that put me out was from KC (don't remember his name) and there was no way that guy was supposed to beat me.

I vaguely remember Joe Woolford's name but don't recall if we ever played. There was one fellow from the St. Louis area that was supposed to be the hottest cue in the room - I went through him bad because I didn't know how good he was. :) He was a blond headed fellow I think.

160K/game one pocket!! :p Gag. The most I EVER played for was 500 and that was on a dern bumper pool table of all things. And it was only one game. Other than that, 200/game 9 ball on a bar box down in Charleston, SC. No way on earth I would ever do anythiing like that again.

Hope you realize that my stories are true - to the best of my faded ability to remember details.

Whitey Walker.

Did I say play even? Guess they don't teach in Florida the meaning of the word matchup which I used repeatedly.

And I figured a big bettor like yourself would be looking for action not just a practice table.

Besides, of the players I listed, only 1 played in this year's US Open and only that one could beat Donnie playing even as you tout on this board regularly.

Have fun in KC. Get some good bar b q and you should check out the Hallmark Museum. I think you would enjoy it.

the whole tone of your reply is sarcastic and Im not sure how the hallmark museum is a dig at me but im sure it is

Rich is that you? It's little Danny, this could not be the same Rich that I grew up watching play a world class game of snooker could it? If so please pm me so I can ask a few questions and then find out if your the real Rich Tefertiller. So many people post on here under false pretense, I may have spelled your last name incorrectly, I have not seen you in over twenty years but I remember how well you played if it's really you.

Yes, it is I. I don't blame these guys for doubting my meanderings. You are one a very few people that would even know who I am/was/almost was. My wife is another.

Remember the big movie we made? Who the heck was that lunatic that produced it? I don't know if I still have my copy or not. But I won!! nanana na!

snooker Great

Rich i was just wandering about you the other day.i was thinking about when Butch passed away and the old butch's pool hall on commercial street and a thought of you came into my mind what ever happened to Rich the greatest snooker played i ever seen.remember when you played St. Louie LOUIE a little snooker on that 1910 brunswick front snooker table now there's another story or the time i watched you run 2 concecutive racks of snooker on that same table. do you remember me i dated one of butchs daughters. it great to know your still kicking. god bless you and yours. Donnie Hale:happydance:

Thanks Donnie. Yes, I remember you. I can't remember Butch's girls names though. Didn't you date the younger one? Was her name Marsha?

What happened was colon cancer and three bad breakdowns. Years of not being able to play followed by years of just not quite regaining the interest. Greenfield has shutdown so far as places to play and the drive to Springfield just got to be too much. My eyes aren't what they used to be and glasses don't really help.

I always liked ol' Butch and was shocked when he died so young. I guess Naomi tried to run the place on College street for awhile, but I don't even know what became of her or that place.

Played in an 8-ball tournament at Brew & Cue near Republic this past Wednesday. Played crappy and managed to beat myself twice. :o They're having a little 9-ball tournament tomorrow and I was invited back to play in that one - so you can imagine how well I played.

Sort of enjoyed it even if it is frustrating to think of what once was and now what is.

Yes, I most certainly remember that crazy Louie Roberts. I played him shortly before he went out west and killed himself. Guess I shouldn't have played him.
