Karen Corr in the finals 14.1 American National Championships.

Karen is playing high level, quality pool. No qualifications needed. It doesn't matter if she is female or male.

High level, quality pool speaks for itself.

Those who make qualification most likely have not seen her and other "Top Professionals" playing in person.

Your post makes no sense on it's own. Was it in reply to a post? If so, which one?

I agree with the general principal though.

Well said! People are just plain a$$holes! Congrats to both Karen and Daz:)

You are he biggest hypocrite on here by saying people are just plain a$$holes. You constantly every chance you get bash Mike Dechaine. Why don't you take some of your hometown heros an put them in the box an see what mike does to them.

Pot calling the kettle black that...

Women hardly ever, if ever really, compete with the men. Any time they enter the same events they rarely get anywhere. This is a statement of fact.

I am sorry if it offended you or anyone else in any way.

If anything, the rarity of it underlines very nicely the fantastic achievement of Karen in reaching the final.

it is not a sexist comment. I love women. My partner/girlfriend is a very good player. One of the very best women players in the league and more than a match for many of the men in the league but definitely not a match for the top players in the league.

Absolutely. 100% agree.

But it was absolutely necessary after someone said women can compete with the men "sometimes" for you to correct it to "hardly ever" immediately after a great showing by Karen. Right You're not a douche bag at all and not socially inept either. Good man!!

Of course I am not. I am British.

We are the very archetype of social standing, culture and sophistication..

As is the lovely Karen of course ;)

Time to get back to getting tanked on warm beer and if you're over 30 and haven't bitten off anyone's nose yet- get to it!!

Why do people feel the need to be assholes? This is just a general question, not aimed at anyone in particular.

Instead of celebrating a good result they have to chime in with the jerkiest possible response just to show what a complete and utter useless excuse for a human that they are.

Sorry this takes the thread off topic. Just wondering out loud why some people have to be cocks when they could choose not to be?

Probably because most of the cocks are doing it anonymously is my take on it. People seem to be much more polite when they know they might someday have to face the people they talk shit about. That's my experience anyway.

Congrats again to Karen. A well deserved result. And also congratulations to Kevin Clark, an unknown who apparently has practiced very hard to be able to hang with the pros.

Ditto. ........

Perhaps you're reading more into VofR's statement ("or hardly ever") than his intent. The written word -- especially when it's only three words -- rarely conveys the writer's full meaning.

Maybe a better response would have been "Why do you say that?", "Could you clarify or expand on that statement?"

Karen Corr

I attended the tournament and it was a pleasure to see a lot of great 14.1 players and fans! Karen played awesome!

In her first match on Saturday morning she ran a 83 and out on Dominic Noe. That was the tournament high run for Saturday!

Against Dechaine, Karen had a 73 ball run off Mike's opening break (She scratched to end the run). They traded some safety's and intentional fouls and Karen ran 52 and out.

The Sunday high run was 111 by Hudji See (Against Archer if I recall). That was the only 100 ball run of the tournament. Hudji is a very nice guy and I watched him show fans and other players how to play break shots in between his matches. Class act all the way.

Very well run event and covered well by JT and NYCGrind!

First, I must say that the three quotes that bdorman offers at the end of his posts are all terrific:

"The more I practice, the luckier I get. --- Gary Player

I care not for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it. --- Abraham Lincoln

Judge a man by his questions rather than by his answers. --- Voltaire"

Almost any quote of Voltaire is bound to be insightful and thought provoking, and the other two quotes, well known as they are, are valuable to read over and over.

As for the question of what level of success women can have in competing with men in pool, I would offer only the suggestion that those who are open to thinking about it (as opposed to those who have formed their opinions and are no longer in thinking mode) give some consideration to the fact that far, far fewer girls/women play pool than do boys/men. So, the experience to date regarding the frequency and quality of play of women in men's events doesn't really say that much about how women would fare against men were an equal number of women (and the same mix of women as men, in terms of coordination, athleticism, etc.) to play, and were they exposed to the same teaching, competition, etc. to which men are exposed.

Does Karen gamble? The reason I ask is because the common belief from men is they can easily beat her.

When someone asked Jeanette Lee what her hustle is she replied it is the fact she is a girl.

Congrats to Karen for a heck of a tournament.

Funny story told to me about karen when she first came over here from Ireland.
One day someone ( a good friend of hers and ours) suggested to her that they play a game of straight pool,For fun ofcourse.

Karen said she had never played it before , so....after a quick rules explanation....within her first few innings she ran like an 80 ... He said he unscrewed and said F this.:D

If she took the game as seriously as she did 9ball , with a little tutalage she would have run a 150 by now, maybe more.....no doubt.

Karen does occasionally participate in challenge matches (with men), but i wouldnt call her a gambler. She a consumate professional.

Here is the bracket from the link...good shooting Karen!

I watched some but not all of the live stream. Aside from the finals were any of Karen's matches on the live stream?

Here we go again:( ok ok ok you win! Mike is the greatest! He is the most respectful player in the world! He is 2nd to no one! All bow when Mike walks in the room! He should have a couple of smokin hot chicks throwing rose petals at his feet wherever he walks!

Mike is so unbelievably talented, that his talent far exceeds the size of his head! All wish that maybe someday we can play well enough just to be able to carry his stick bag for him,,,,,, I forgot, that's what your for;)

Dude, relax;) take a chill pill and worry about more important things in life,,,,, like when those scummy terrorist in Iraq come over here and start shooting us up in the pool halls if we don't do something to stop them!

I can see this. I think snooker prowess is an excellent dovetail for 14.1. the way a player should move through a rack is very similar to how snooker players do it.

I might be Klopek but I don't go out of my way to rain on people's good accomplishments.
