Karl Boyes talking crap

Firstly, settle what?

Secondly, wasn't it you who was bragging about beating lou the first time you played him, in a race to, er, two? A true test indeed.
hey thaiger nice to see you back. I was just winding Lou up as I said a zillion times that a race to two was meaningless. the only meaning is that it exists just like if we flip coins and I win then I beat you at one coin flip.

Ok I like to watch European Football aka Soccer and those Athletes are some of the poorest sports ever. flop here, flop there, cry to the ref, kick someone in the legs on purpose, head butt to the chest etc..... so don't act like all European sportsman are just that "sportsman" everyone is chippy and has an ego because when you compete at such a high level you have to be.

Also I have seen you best player, in Appleton, cry like a little baby playing in match's. Earl is not the only one who has antics. Done with that argument.
Didn't Darren almost take out Bob Jewett at the last Make It Happen event? I think a pool ball went flying in Bob's direction.

Me either but as long as we are talking fantasy pairings that will never happen.....

I'd go for you and Duckie vs. me and Stan. 14.1 for a large amount. Think you can get Duckie to come out of hiding for that?

What a shocker. Disagreement --> JB posts about gambling.

Of course, if that were to ever actually happen, and if JB lost, he'd be humble and stop doing that. Oh, wait a minute...

If I ever had to deal with what Karl did at the last MC playing Earl, I probably wouldn't want to shake my opponent's hand either.

I might even develop a cocky attitude towards that person anytime I beat them.

it's a joke lighten up......I don't bet on pool to get humility.

of course there is a far better chance of me acquiring humility than some folks here ever getting intelligence.

this is getting old, everytime there is a tournament with an international field:

1. bla bla, european robots
2. yada yada should have been winners break
3. america gets knocked out early
4. JAM blames the BCA
5. All european players are paid more money than they can handle by the national olympic commitee just for getting up in the morning
6. race to 10000 svb will win every time
7. finals finished, a european player won.

+1 LOL

You call that talking crap? Did you bother to come up from Earl's nuts long enough to hear why Boyes feels that way?

Even nice guy Tony Drago is upset with Earl

I was readily viewing and laughing at many of your idiotic posts for a long time. I never sensed the need to post until a topic that bothered me came up and there were no people who were at the incident giving accurate information.

hence I said earl win in 03 was very impressive because of field.
back to the original; boyesy versus Strickland on the 10foot since earl has already "proven" apparently that he is the daddy on that table. I see Boyesy humiliating him on that equipment

Yes, your debut on AzBilliards made quite an impression. LOL

So, for future reference, is Castle Billiards the same place where Pat Fleming does the exhibition matches?

Yup, I'm surprised there's even a debate about this.

No, that is Sandcastle Billiards in Edison, NJ.

Thanks so much, John. There is a chance I may be going to this pool room next year.

I have met many, many good people on the tournament trail in my travels, some of whom are AzB-ers, to include you, but at this stage of my life, I do not want to go anywhere and run into unpleasantness. Thanks for the confirmation.

I don't think Karl Boyes talking about Earl Strickland is really the big deal here. What really leaves a poor taste in the mouth is how Matchroom has really played Earl Strickland, especially in the Mosconi Cup. First they play up the "fragile genius" angle, even going so far as to make a movie about it. Then they put him MIKED UP in front of a hostile, drunken audience, in a high pressure situation, setting him up for the meltdown. It is so cynical it's sickening. Of course his opponents are going to react to his rantings. You can't expect people to show the same restraint and patience with a stranger and competitor as they would with for example a family member with dementia behaving this way.

I hear the complaints allready: "What do you want, should they not allow him to play at all?" First of all, how about cutting the sound to the microphone the minute he starts ranting? How about giving warnings and dq'ing him if he refuses to adhere to the rules? While his behaviour may not be entirely in his control, he has shown that he can control himself somewhat when strict rules are being applied. They way they have used him is almost like putting an alchoholic in a room full of liquor and watching him or her stumble around drunk for our amusement. It is clear that the refs were ordered to give him a lot of slack, and to me that is not being helpful, rather the contrary.

The only person showing a shred of decency is Jim Wych, who at least has the decency and sensitivity to deflect attention from and downplay Earls antics, instead of lingering on the topic like certain other commentators.

end rant

There is a lot of truth in what you write.

The only champion pocket billiards player I can compare Earl is to Higgins, and though Alex had his share of antics and problems when he was in the pit, he was well loved by many. In fact, some considered him a genius.

I do wonder when Alex Higgins was in his prime if there were rumblings about his behavior, similar to what is happening today with Earl. Higgins' bio on Wiki is, as follows:
Higgins came to be known as the "People's Champion" because of his popularity, and is often credited with having brought the game of snooker to a wider audience, contributing to its peak in popularity in the 1980s. He had a reputation as an unpredictable and difficult character. He was a heavy smoker, struggled with drinking and gambling, and admitted to using cocaine and marijuana. Diagnosed with throat cancer in 1998, Higgins was found dead in his Belfast home on 24 July 2010.

It seems as if these "bad boys of pool" do draw attention to the high-profile events, which sponsors want. The controversy gets people talking, just like we are here on this thread. The more controversy, the more talking, the more popularity of the event that is generated, I am thinking.

It should be noted that Higgins is given credit for making snooker popular on TV. Hmm . . .

Like Earl, Higgins was entered into the Snooker Hall of Fame in 2011, long after his prime. When he was hitting 'em strong, it seems they did not want to induct him into the Hall of Fame. I think Earl's admission into the Hall of Fame, as well, was later than it should have been, considering all of the championship titles he holds compared to those inducted earlier than Earl.

Thanks Jam. I read the post three times before responding, and then posted... And then took one more read and realized my mistake. Then I couldn't find the option to delete my post lol, (maybe I can't).

I read it the *exact* same way as you did initially. After I read it a few times, I realized it was the opposite of what I had initially interpreted.

Great minds think alike, abs. It was, indeed, a poorly written post. :D

Oh, yeah, this forum does not allow deleting posts. That is because in the past, disgruntled members deleted all their posts, and so no more deleting allowed after that. ;)

"I'm a Champion, and you're a chump!"

By the logic on here, why didn't Dennis reply "I have a big break and have won lots of $ in long races", instead of getting upset then?

Or, in the alternative, after Karl grabbed his crotch, a good retort for Dennis would have been ---> HERE
