Keeping new balls like new

I know there was a relatively recent topic on this, but the search feature is not working for me. Is it working for anyone else?

I recently got a brand new set of Aramiths, and I really want to keep them in good condition. Should I use this Aramith ball cleaner that comes with the set? Should I use this as well as something else? About how often should I clean them (per hours of playing)? If it's best to use wax or something, what kind should I buy and how do I use it?

Yes I know these are tons of questions but I really don't know much about this.

Personally I prefer cleaned and polished balls. I use an automitive wax (Yellow wax) that is carnuba and petroleum based. No abrasives.
 
I was going to buy a ball cleaner but can't see that much $$ for an item I'd use once a month. I play daily and clean the balls about once a month. I use Xenit to clean them and then use Aramith Ball Polish or the other stuff that Muellers carries... www.poolndarts.com . It only takes about 10 minutes by hand. The Xenit gets all the spots off without any rubbing. Very good stuff and also great for many other cleaning jobs around the house/garage.

There, you'll find some valuable information about the company's products for cleaning and/or restoring the playing condition of their billiard balls...!!! And, from practical experience, I'd say that cleaning the balls once/week is adequate, even if they're used daily...!!!

I personally clean mine once a week! That way that by the end of the week I am playing with bar room condition balls (chalk, fingerprints, etc.) At the beginning of the week I am playing with polished nice balls. This way I get used to the way they react differently under different playing conditions.

That's pretty much the best method right there, and I very much recommend this suggestion for the same reasons.

I will mention though that it is worth while investing in a ball cleaning/polishing machine like Ballstar, etc, but it's worth shiopping around for the best prices and the cleaning/waxing products available :)

Wipe the CB after every game. If there is a hard chalk spot clean off the spot. This will keep the OB's from getting marks on them. Vacuum the table to pick up chalk residue. Don't shoot the OB's directly with the cue stick.

When I am watching a sports show I will clean the balls. Have used Chem-Pak. Bought it at the Derby. Also the Aramith cleaner that came with the balls.

Jim,
It is going to be difficult for us to continue including you in the list of true pool fanatics UNLESS YOU BREAK DOWN AND GET THE DAMN BALL CLEANER.

You can use the machine about every 3rd day; lowering your "per day" and "per use" cost.

P.S. - If you are afraid of your wife, we can't help you.
 
does that ball cleaner get them shiny new looking or just a good cleaning and smooth surface. i bought new balls about a year ago and i remember when i opened the box i was in awe. they only looked that way for about a week tops. i clean them now with the arimith stuff and i have some other stuff in a bue bottle that works a little better. i forget what its called.

Using the BallStar machine not only cleans them, but also polishes them. They sparkle like little colored mirrors.
 
i didnt realize dirty my balls were(they are real bad worse than bar balls,worse than you can imagine, dull, sticky etc. they dont smell but everything else ), i have a GC4 and Centennials, until a month ago I havent been in a pool room for years-I forgot what clean balls looked like, its embarassing, anyways my GC4 is at my ex-girls house-I dont go there often, and yes i'm gonna move it, I went to play on it last night and WOW my balls are beyond dirty, no one else uses the table,

so this brings me to this whats the best ball cleaner?, $$$ isnt an issue, in my new house i'm putting in my GC4 and a 12' snooker box, so I need a cleaner that can accomomadate both sizes of balls.
