I like to have the coins at the head of the table so the breaker moves them. Some like to have the racker move them. What say you?? When moving from 4 to 5 and across the side pocket we refer to crossing the river.
i havent read all the replies but what else do you need to know???If you're playing a race you put 2 coins under the center diamond on the head rail, one belonging to you one belonging to your competitor, and you move the according coin one diamond for each game you win. If playing an ahead set you only need one coin that starts in the middle and is moved one diamond either direction based on who won the last game.
this is 2013.
we should be texting the score.

And in 2013, we should know the difference between a wireless LANDLINE phone (as in the top photo) and a text-capable cell phone!!!!

i think not knowing separates the bar player from the pool hall player
I start using coin method few months ago, but i count not only the diamonds, but the pockets also (place the coin near the pocket) and using two different coins. It works great, an we move the coin only after the score is spoked in voice.

Putting the coins near the pocket to count a game is not the normal convention and is fraught with peril in some circles.
Since the diamonds conveniently count to 9 and you swipe the coin back to the start when you reach 10, then counting the games you've won is very straight forward when you're racing a number higher than 10.
For example, if you're racing to 21, and you both have swiped your coin once and your coin is at the 3rd diamond and his is at the 7th, then i know he leads 17-13. Your method wont be very easy to figure the score.
I would reread my earlier post if I were you. Then come to the Derby City Classic!!!

But the other side of the coin, if your playing someone who does this he's definitely showing his skill level and I like my game even more. Now if UJ Puckett did this, I'd be looking around the room to see if Harry Reasoner was there
I know black-balled will find a way to insult me and beat me into the ground in this thread, but you can conveniently carry coins in your left pocket. Each time you win a game, transfer a coin to your right pocket. This way you can always verify the score under the rail.

even though i have been shooting off and on for more than 40 yrs, i never had to learn the "coin method" of keeping score on the table by moving a coin around. can somebody please explain that to me? thanking you in advance.
What is the difference?Didn't read the whole thread but the biggest thing that irks me is when people have the coins on the wrong side of the table. You break, you move the coin. Why would you want the person racking to move the coin? Can't tell you how many times I've seen that....
