I'm sickened by it and, quite frankly, give up. I know this is a moderated forum, and I know if there is intervention, the moderators will get criticism. Maybe it is just meant to be. Some people have no business posting on forums, and ironically, I am beginning to think I am one of them. The forums can be quite hurtful. I know this type of dialogue brings pleasure to some.

And yet you're still here. Go figure.

The bottom line is Keith is one of the most entertaining players the game has seen, not solely because of his personality, but because of his natural ability. He is always fun to watch and often leaves onlookers amazed.

Drugs, no drugs, alcohol, no alcohol, cigarettes, no cigarettes.... none of that matters. He's still one of the best players and most entertaining personalities the game has seen.

Keith is NOT the reason pool has declined over the years. Hell! How many pro poolplayers can say that they've shared screentime in major motion pictures with the likes of Tom Cruise and Paul Newman?!?!?!

The first time I ever saw Jesse Bowman was at the Super Billiards Expo in Valley Forge several years ago. He was kind of flying under the radar at that time and wasn't into playing poker full time quite yet.

Keith pulled me aside at the action table and said that every time that the redhead (Jesse Bowman) was up, I should bet on him.

I almost hesitate to relay this fact, due to the recent discussion on this forum about David Matlock, but I'm going to put it out there anyway, since Jesse doesn't seem to be playing pool much anymore.

According to Keith McCready, Jesse Bowman is the best bar table player in the country right now, at least at the time of the Valley Forge event. Coming from Keith, that speaks volumes, IMHO! :)

I had the misfortune of watching a Jesse Bowman match several years ago at the ACS Nationals.

Not only was he not exhibiting
the best bar table player in the country right now
, he was a poor sport and had people saying that HE was part of what was wrong with pool.

As he was getting his a$$ stomped by his opponent, he seemed disinterested, argumentative and rude. At one point, one of the Jesse Bowman nuthangers joined his little posse by the table (I think it was Josh Johnson) and started causing a commotion (Which Jesse did nothing to stop it) to the point that referees and tournament officials had to step in and order him to leave the area.

Can he play some good pool....ya, is/was he the best bar player at the time....maybe, was his behavior good for the sport....hell no

Awesome post!
Outside of The Color Of Money, it seems like McDermott was supplying the cues for the movies in the 80's, but I'm not sure about the Baron Video.
I know all of the cues in Kiss Shot were McD's, and know where some of the equipment from the Color of Money is for sale at, but not enough out there on the Baron or The Baltimore Bullet....
I wonder where the baron's cue ended up...... (both of them!lol)
I LOVE THIS KINDA STUFF!

I just noticed that the case is the exact same as the McD case I got with my first custom.
Haven't been able to get my hands on another one since it was stolen in Wyoming a few years ago.
Gorgeous cue though!

We had a thread about this movie a while back, and I cut-and-pasted this bit of movie trivia, for all those interested:
I found the Sotheby's auction of the cue stick used by Johnny Cash in the movie "The Baron." It sold for $6,000.

The auction read: Property from the Estate of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash

JOHNNY CASH POOL CUE IN CASE FROM THE FILM "THE BARON AND THE KID"

600-800 USD
Lot Sold. Hammer Price with Buyer's Premium: 6,600 USD

DESCRIPTION:
Two-piece cue with extra upper shaft, with sand paper and two keys; case inscribed The Baron; the cue with pearl inlay and inscribed Baron and Johnny Cash. 2 items

In 1981, Johnny Cash released the album "The Baron." The title track made its debut at #76 and rose to a high of #10 on the country charts. In 1984, Johnny Cash starred in the movie "The Baron and the Kid" abut a pool hustler who befriends a boy. Johnny used this cue in the movie. The cue was also used in publicity for the album.

Here's a picture of it below. They were asking 6- to 800 and got 6 dimes! There's a little piece of American pool trivia! There aren't too many songs written about pool, American style!

And here's some more movie smut:
According to the credits, Gregory Allen Webb from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, played "Billie Joe."

The name of Johnny Cash's piano man for over 20 years is Earl Poole Ball. That his name in real life. He had a role as "Dr. Pockett" in the movie.

Interestingly, Mike Massy had a role in this flick as well, playing a guy named "Manning."

Then on another pool forum, there was this:
There's a poster on another forum who was there when they shot this movie in Chattanooga. He posted: Coincedentaly,Johnnie Cash made a movie about the" Baron and the Kid" and several of us locals from Chattanooga were in it.My wife and myself along with Butch Burroughs,Dicky Roberts,Phil Hunt,Glen Young and Mike Massey. Came out in 1983.A stinker of a movie but we got to meet Johnnie Cash,June Carter Cash,Darren McGavin, Claude Akins,Tracy Polland (Who later married Michael J Fox) and a good friend of Johnnie Cash who was on the set Waylon Jennings. Memorable experience for all.I have a few copies of the movie(450 to be exact, if anyone would like a copy.) Just kidding. But I did enjoy being around the stars.

Now, here is the interesting tidbit. The stick used in that video clip was NOT the stick auctioned off by Sotheby's, but there was a different stick used in the movie than in this musical video, I think.

The stick below is the stick used in the movie! It sure is a small world sometimes, but I enjoyed learning about that Johnny Cash movie.

You bet your ass it speaks volumes i bet Jesse would love to hear that. In fact you are correct in saying that in fact he was the best for years on a bar table and if he got in the game for only a couple monthes to get back he would be again. Jesse went down to Olath home of the quote unquote best Matlock back in like 98-2000 and won 7 of the 9 tourneys on the box:D Everyone knows Jesse is a phenom as was Keith its crazy i dont know Keith but i do know jesse and he will be tickled SHITLESS to hear the praise from Keith. Still to this day Jesse is top 5 in the World on the box

I was at the two tournaments he didn't win then. Matlock was not playing well I don't think he was playing much then. But he still finished higher than Jesse in the one I had David in the calcutta. David lost the semi-finals to his friend from OK missing an easy 8-ball on hill-hill. Gabe Owens won. Field included Danny Medina, James Walden, Junior Brown, Jesse, Jamie, Jeremy V., Cliff Joyner, Dave Matlock, Coy Lee, Dave Gomez and a host of others. Great tournament.

Jesse didn't win either of the two tourneys I saw him at but he played good. Really good. Nobody (at least nobody who would tell) knew him and he beat Walden out of the gate. Or maybe Jamie did. I don't really remember which one did but I remember Walden saying after his match "I didn't do nothing wrong. I played my ass off." Or something to that effect. I thought "who are these kids?"
