Kelly Fisher 3 Time San Diego Champion

Hey everyone, we here at DIAMONDBACK just got the call from Kelly about an hour ago. She has won the San Diego Classic for the 3rd year in a row and in VERY powerful fashion. In the semi-finals Kelly Fisher beat Julie Kelly 7 to 1 and then went on to meet the cinderella story of the event Jasmine Ouschan. Kelly won 7 to 0 in the finals and we are so very proud of her! Kelly definitly had a killer stroke for this event.

but i personally think that the new format is only in place to hurt the top women. Lets face it. They take the top 8 from the winners side and the top 8 from the losers side and redraw into a single elimination format. Where is that fair for the top 8 that were on the winners side. It isn't and the ladies know it. They lose once and they are out where the top 8 from the losers get a 2nd chance. I can understand that they want to see new faces on TV....but lets be fair about it.....I also personally believe that every tournament , man or women, should be true double elimination like the Joss Tour is. anyway, thanks for letting me vent my frustration.........mike

Kelly played great and deserves her 3rd win.

On the other hand, from watching Jasmine I'd have to call her the "lemon eater"! Her game face looks like she just took a big bite out of a lemon! Now, lot's of players like Alison, Efrem, Earl etc. play w/ a "game face" so as not to convey their emotions to anyone. But Jasmine is different.

In her case I feel vibrations of hate, revenge and animosity towards her opponent. I think this causes her to try too hard & loose faith in her abilities. This is what I saw in San Diego on Sunday!

I agree with alot of what you said. But Im also thinking that this new format just may be in place to create a scenario where the players are forced rise to the higher task. Raising the bar of competition.
Double elimination across an entire tournament is starting to become a rare thing with pro events and even amateur higher level events. At the pro level, bringing in the TV equation, the time element is also a factor.
Under the old version, the usual faces at the top are given matches early on, of playing low ranked players and they virtually (not always though) coast to the semi-finals and finals. Hence more TV time.
Therefore they hold those top rankings over and over and over.
Now we have a scenario that creates an environment to where the sleeping giant players are starting to make it to the top. Xiaoting Pan, Kelly Fisher, Jasmine and others as well are driving to the front and their doing it under greater pressure. Xiaoting Pan is rocketing her way to the top. It's possible that her and Kelly Fisher are gonna be the next Allison Fisher and Karen Corr. Jasmine did so very well in this tournament. She too is another powerful force to be reckoned with.
We are very proud of what Kelly has accomplished and were amazed how well she did. 23 consecutive matches won in this event and to win inthe finals 7-0. Thats incredible.
And our hats off to Jasmine, she plowed her way through the losers bracket and through some formidable opponents to get to the finals. That says alot about her and her game.

Like I said before months ago, I predicted that a a new powerful wave of male and female players are surging to the top of the pro levels.
And we are starting to see it first hand.
Look at Stevie Moore for the men and John Schmidt. They arent going away anytime soon.

On a side note, this may create more candidates for the BCA hall of fame
at a faster rate for the males and females.

Why this is happening is simple. Billiards has been one of the fastest growing sports for over a decade. That populus is coming forthand the talent with it.
Demographically more and more women have been taking up the sport, even faster than the guys. So now you have a large crowd of female players trying to become pro. With that larger crowd we are bound to find stronger developing talent hitting the qualifying tournaments and kicking in the door to the pro level. Furthermore, more people are taking up the sport and at a younger age. For crying out loud, pretty soon we will see kids fresh out of pre-school showing up at Valley Forge weilding a $1500custom cue they got for Christmas, playing some 45 year old hustler on the gambling tables, collecting the $50 or occasional $100 bills after running practically flawless racks and with their Daddy Warbucks watching nearby with a happy tear in his eye. Granted, it would only be accomplished with the new SARDO step stool.
Can you imagine what it's going to be like when THOSE kids reach their teens? Pool will start to resemble tennis at Wimbolden.

I felt like you do when the format changed. But it really doesn't impact the players either way. I asked Kelly what she thought about it, and she told me she looks at it like a double elimination tournament to win your way into a smaller single elimination tournament. 64 players trying to get into a field of 16 who will shoot it out. When you look at it that way, it really doesn't hurt the better players at all.

At this point, Jasmin is not a WPBA touring pro. She has played just three WPBA rankings events in her life. 7th in the 2002 WPBA Nationals, 1st in the 2006 BCA Pro Event (called the Enjoypool.com Open), and 2nd at 2007 WPBA San Diego.

The WPBA does not give a player a ranking. A player earns WPBA ranking points through participation in WPBA ranking events. A players ranking is the sum of all ranking points earned in the last 10 WPBA ranking events. As Jasmin has played in just two of the last ten WPBA rankings events played, she would not have a ranking better than about 30th even if she were a member of the tour.

I'm sure that if you pooled all the top players on the WPBA, most would agree that Jasmin deserves mention with Allison Fisher , Karen Corr, Kelly Fisher, Xiaoting Pan, Ga Young Kim and Monica Webb as one of the tour's very best.....but respect doesn't earn you a ranking, playing WPBA events does.

Jasmin has been around for a very long time, she has achieved more in pool than most women on the WPBA have.

Jasmin was the #1 ranked player in the world (WPA ranking) by the end of 2006.

Any player who knows anything about pool would consider her a very serious competitor.

I like Jasmin Ouschan's game very well. I like her powerful stroke, her great break, her focus and confidence at the table.

I am not sure what 'Cinderella Story" means, but I too cannot really understand how Jasmin can be considered a Cinderella, expect may be becasue she is a very beautiful lady.

By the way, I am very happy to see Kelly win this event three times in a row. She must be playing really well in the finals, to have won it 7-0. I would like to wish her all the best in Vegas.

She is a Cinderella here in the US with her limited exposure in 3 WPBA Tournaments. Her fan base will grow with more exposure here in the US. She is exhilarating to watch because of her aggressive rapid play. She seems to read the table quickly and makes up her mind quickly - I don't know if she would get more wins if she slowed down like most of the other players - less exciting?

I wondered if she had a sense of humor for when she is up, she always has a game face on and doesn't talk much or criticize the audience for minor distractions. She does have a light side when chatting with her Instructor on the sidelines.

I hope that she has sponsers with deep pockets to allow her to spend more time here and get more exposure here in the US - more sponsers would help. She travels to Asia where she does well and the US may have less opportunity to see her and the other up and coming Asians when the big money tourneys move to Asia in the future (seems to be the trend).

Oh yeah contrats to Kelly on the threepeat.
