Kevin is a Genius

Have you been to the IPT website? And did you listen to his latest tape?

I looks like he has been listening to everyone here afterall.

He announced dates of his next 25 qualifiers. Five at a time each week.

He announced more dates of qualifiers later on.

The entry fee will be $1,000. Or $500. Pay $500 and you receive half of the prize money.

He has tweaked the selection process where if some of the players can't make it to a tournament then he will have the option of filling the vacancy from a list? of applicants. I take that to mean that if some really big name player hasn't qualified KT can pick him to play.

Sure are going to be a lot of qualifiers the rest of this year.

He suggests round robins of 5 players each putting up $100 or $200 winner take all for an entry fee.

This is getting complicator and complicator.

You can apply by internet or fax or mail. Applications will be on the website or at the pool halls. No excuses now please. You snooze, you lose. Ha Ha.

Even The One is going to find it hard to find fault now.

Jake, next Christmas I think you should request a rubber mold of KT's a$$ so that you can always have your nose up it and maybe give us a break.

I haven't listened to it but if they're going to be putting info out in the pool rooms & not just the internet then that's a step in the right direction.

LOL thats funny Timb although Im sure he'd prefer the real thing! :D

KT, err Jake, yep its great news, a step in the right direction for sure - do you think I'll get an invite if a play doesn't turn up?

Now see what a bit of constructive feeback can do, if we had all spent out time up KT's a$$ (not that you'd have let us) like you then I doubt anything would have changed!

Not the first time I've said it and I hope its not the last but well done the IPT for showing a willingness to change.

You haven't listened to it? C'mon. What are you waiting for? Surely, you are not that busy.

But trust me, just when everyone is getting antsy, wondering about announcements for upcoming qualifiers; changing the selection process; and just begging for more info, KT comes through with another timely CD. It is priceless. It will take many sessions of listening to it just to get all the facts straight.

Now it looks like with all of his tournaments everyone is going to win $100,000.

Yep, KT is a genius. He is playing the pool community like a fine tuned stradivarious (sp). LOL

It is beginning to sound too good to be true. Do all these pool players deserve to be rewarded so well? In only a little over 100 days the fun really begins. And then at the end of the year two giant tournaments with over 250 players in Vegas all able to win the big bucks and even be televised live. And they are able to win free, all expenses paid, trip to Vegas. What the hell, that alone traps 1/4 million pool players to play in the APA.

Stay tuned, KT will have more info about the TV shows coming soon. Ah, he is the master of the hook.

Off hand, I would have to say no.

But then, don't feel bad, I won't be given a spot either.

I wonder how many will choose the 500 dollar entry fee...I imagine most.

Some will really be kicking themselves if they get through and then lose out on half the prizes and the chance to rank in the points for the 2007 tour.

Seems a bit messy to me. I tend to think $500 would have been a reasonable entry fee (with all the same perks). Would probably get triple the participation numbers.

We'll see that changing I think if 80%+ of the entrants select the $500 entry option and numbers at the qualifiers aren't too high.

But this will depend on supply and demand, and things could change a lot of the IPT broadcasts do well on TV.

btw: I liked the idea of the 2007 Tour Qualifiers getting expenses paid. That will be one heck of a tourney with 50 players picking up Tour Cards for 2007 valued at 100k minimum. There will be some partying!

One key point of the broadcast that caught my attention...

If you win a qualifier and do well in north american open (or world open), your prize money counts toward the top 100 end of the year money earners. I always thought that it was the top 100 IPT Tour card members that win their 2007 tour cards. Not so, from my understanding of the broadcast. The top 100 TOTAL participants (both tour card AND qualifiers) win the 2007 tour card.

Therefore, the weeding out process of talent among the IPT members will happen much more rapidly. If Wu wins one of the qualifiers and makes top 10 in one of the tournaments, he's a virtual lock to be one of the top 100 money earners by the end of the year, hence winning his 2007 tour card. He wouldn't have to go through the qualifier tournament at the end of the year.

Also, if many of the qualifiers do well in the tournaments, possibly much more than 50 IPT members will have to requalify for their 2007 tour card. I wouldn't be surprised if more than half of the current IPT members will have to requalify for their 2007 tour card, and half will not win their card next year.

On the IPT site it says this about the KOTH [ Sigel s Reyes]dvd-
"Watch the entire event that “Sports Illustrated” called the “Best Pressure Performance of 2005”!

Does anybody have a link to this article? I checked the media section where all the other media mentions are listed and it isnt mentioned. You would think that such a positive quote from a top sports magazine would be there. I tried google and searched the SI website but to no avail.

It seems a strange award for a match that everyone agrees was totally one sided, so I was just wondering who made the comment- if it ever was uttered..

I don't like the two different entry fees. It should be one entry fee and the same pay for everyone. IMO this lowers the quality of the tournaments and could result in some behind the scene deals being made.

Unless Kevin is just trying to test and see how many players show up at different levels. Maybe he should add another for a 100 entry fee and and you only get 1/10th of the money or maybe one for $25 and you get 1/40th the prize money. Hey I might show up for that one.

I bet one of the first players he selects will be Jeanette Lee for publiciity reasons. Johnnyt

I'm sure KT could "squeeze you in" somewhere Jake! :D

PS
Colin I wish they had changed the entry to $500 too for all but hey atleast theyre listening! At this rate we might actually end up with a quality professional tour sometime in my life time! :D

I think the first player will be Wu, it seems they have realized that they f****d up by dreaming up a selection system that failed to capture the current double world champion.

Engert, Janette Lee and Possibly Mrs Barretta may also get an invite

How about?

Foldes? Surely, with his performances in other qualifiers, and his up and coming status, he might be in there somewhere.

Barretta's a no-brainer from a marketing perspective IMO. Lee too (husband/wife story - great family programming).

Most of those people, except Lee, will most likely qualify in one of the qualifiers. I agree that Lee would be high on the list. Another husband wife team. Good for PR. Good for TV. And everyone loves Jeanette. She would bring a lot of followers with her. Plus her sponsors.

Another good possible choice would be Mitch - Ewa's husband. Look at all the free pub and air time he could bring to the tour.

Has anybody seen the T-Mobile commercial with Jeanette Lee walking by the front door of a pool room carrying her stick uncased? I've only seen the commercial one time, and it went by in a flash, but I definitely caught a glimpse of Jeanette Lee, looking kind of stoic, strolling by the front door of a pool room, a pool room entrance which Keith says he recognized. (LOL) :D

Kind of doubt Mitch Laurence would do it, but who knows?! :)

The way you've described it, JJinFLA, it sounds a little cult-ish. :o

It is a good thing that the IPT is being kept abreast about concerns expressed either via forums, e-mails, or phone calls. However, sometimes I wonder if players get left out of the loop who don't have daily access to a computer or have to rely on others for the latest IPT news. In these instances, the latest news can only be disseminated to member players and/or prospective qualifier players by word of mouth.

Now that I think about it, Joe Tucker was developing a pool room address list at the last U.S. Open, maybe for a direct-mail purpose, but I'm not sure. :)

If an international mailing list of actual existing pool rooms was developed, it might provide a good vehicle to send out press releases and/or fliers about upcoming IPT events. Just a thought! :p

C'mon Jennie, everyone here but me, you, & Craig knows that all pool players have computers and are completely aware & up to date on everything IPT.

I am sure that the IPT by now has quite an impressive e-mail mailing list. Any person can go to their website and place their email address on the list and receive info from the IPT.

Anybody with a computer who knows pool players who do not have computers can print out the info and inform them.

Any pool player who doesn't have a computer should contact other pool players who are in the know and ask to receive info from them.

If any pool player at this late date has not figured that out then either he is just plain stupid or his friends are not really his friends.

How many of you received an invite to participate in the Idol? If you didn't whos fault is that? People who want to get on the Idol make it their business to do so. And nobody cares about the many, many talanted people who don't get the message. No one came begging me to be on the Idol.
