Kevin Trudeau Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison

Probably eligible for parole in 5-7 years. How many millions that he scammed people out of would he trade for those 5-7 years that he'll never get back? Maybe he'll write a new book in prison........

Here's one from the archives that I painted 4+ years ago
not fed time you do 95%

Federal time mandates you must serve at least 85% of your sentence. You can get up to 15% off for good behavior. He will be in a cush minimum security pen and more than likely be admired by other cons for his successful schemes. They, as well as everyone else, know that he has secreted money away for the day he gets out. Switzerland, Dominican Republic, wherever, it really doesn't matter. Some cons will try to get close to him to maybe get a little piece of his pie somehow. He will be the one getting conned in the joint. Only fitting imo.

I think he was arrogant enough to believe this day would never come. Interesting that, broke as he is, he could still somehow afford a very high priced legal team to assist him. That speaks volumes in itself, and I'm sure that point was not lost on the judge.

No one has really come close to what his real scheme was with pool. He was looking to create a company that he could go public with and sell a boatload of stock (ala Lyle Berman with the World Poker Tour) and cash out. He wanted to do this with minimum investment and not pay any bills he didn't have to. He left many vendors (including casinos) to sue him, as well as all the players hoping to collect. He only paid out the owed prize money under duress and threat of his life, and that took years! I know many like to think of him as this benevolent dictator but he didn't really give two rats asses about any pool player, except his boy friend Sigel.

Trust me this man is no hero! Sociopath and con man is a far more apt description. His story will surely show up on American Greed one of these days!

Jay is correct mentioning nobody knew his true intentions with pool, I' m sure Sigel might spill that one day though for a book or cash or whatever although he's as patholigical as trudeau so who knows if he even could speak the truth without embellishment and bs

I have my theory, but its ultimately speculation, those here claiming they knew his full intentions are simply wrong

if he has cash socked away, he'll live better in club fed than most pool players

i do get the anger towards the guy though, depending on your personal morals/beliefs, etc.....his crimes could be considered worse than most particularly when you consider all the people he affected

I'll say no more on this, the ultimate jerkoff who imo was pool's temprorary ultimate saviour

i heard club fed has golf and tennis and pool far from state pen

Not all Fed Pens are the same, you can bet on that. And he has no choice to where he's going, and if they want to, they could stick him real good. We shall see.

If it was all about going public, what caused him to bail?

Though my opinion stands in the minority on this topic, I think Kevin Trudeau thought he could make something happen with pool and online gambling, much like poker took off. He spoke at the players meetings about the IPT producer having experience with the Golf Channel, and in Trudeau's vision, he was hoping to create a Pool Channel. At this time, 2005-2006 era, poker on TV and online gambling was HUGE.

When it comes to onling gambling, Keith has mentioned to me that Harry Platis has put forth some effort in this arena for many years, but it just hasn't come to fruition. I'm not sure whether it's federal laws, state laws, et cetera.

I believe after it was evident that Trudeau's original vision was thwarted due to online gambling laws in place as well as an overseas entity not showing any interest, the writing was on the wall.

I read on FB that some players paid $2,000 in qualifier entry fees to be a member of the IPT. Most players believed the IPT would flourish. Players came out of the woodwork due to the Trudeau's vision. If you're a lifelong player like Jimmy Fusco, Scotty Townsend, Dave Matlock, James Walden, Keith McCready, et cetera, the IPT was the best thing that ever happened to pool, they believed, in their lifetime.

To fault the players for wanting the IPT to be the change agent for pool seems wrong to me. Why shouldn't they go for it? It's easy for some of us to sit on the rail and say "I told you so," but I definitely understand why each player wanted this to work.

I will go further to say there are some players who did, indeed, benefit monetarily from the IPT. I'm sure Thorsten didn't mind pocketing 350 large, and Efren didn't do so bad, either. Dave Matlock made enough at the IPT North American 8-Ball Championship to put a down payment on a house.

Yes, vendors got stiffed. Yes, the qualifier players invested money with no return when the IPT folded.

As far as why Kevin Trudeau is in jail, it's not for his informercials; it's for not being forthcoming with his assets to the Court. There are some people in the pool community who have done far worse than Kevin Trudeau when it comes to making a living, but some pool people don't mind getting their palms greased by these guys. Double standard.

The people that bought his books are so clueless, most dont even know they were cheated. What the people really lost was the hope they had that some of this crap was real and they would benefit. Besides if he wont pay a fine to stay out of 10 years in jail, so why would he pay back his 'victims'?

Those who don't know they were cheated, were cheated how?

If your answer is that some of the info turned out to be false, then shouldn't EVERY news outlet in America be put in prison for the exact same reason, as ALL of them have put out crap nutrition advice many times to millions.

I'm just trying to understand who he harmed and how.

Someone who still has some of the Kool-aid left in the fridge. How about a man who sold phony cancer cures to desperate people. Study this guys history before you comment. This is not a good man gone bad, this is an evil to the core basterd getting what he deserves.

Again, phony cures are promoted (no, REQUIRED!) today by the medical monopoly. Why no jail time for those phony cures?

I'm starting to side with KT lately. Something stinks.

I thought he was going to prison for refusing to pay a 37 million dollar fine? Are you sure it has anything to do with phony cancer cures? Who goes to jail when Big Pharma drugs kill people?

You beat me to it.

One of his simplest cons was to simply keep charging people's credit cards for monthly fees and subscriptions long after the customer cancelled.

As for him ending up in prison, long overdue, better late than never.

Now THAT is a crime.

If you like your subscription, you can keep it....or something along those lines.

so, the only way to go to jail is to physically harm people ? He was told point blank that he could not longer use "fiction, lies and cons" to sell his BS books, and he refused to do it. He basically laughed at the judge and said come get me. Well, he went and got him. case close.

Those exist and if you are a ex congressman or big time connected CEO you may land there if you are lucky. Problem is they represent only 17% of Fed prisons and are packed now. He will end up in a medium security prison and don't let the word medium fool you. There you live in and usually share a cell, not a dorm. You are out for a certain time of the day and the guard to inmate ratio is much higher.

The people you may mix with can be very bad indeed. The rules are many among the inmates and learning them can mean whether you survive or not. Mister Trudeau is in for a very long, very hard life he may or may not survive. The worst thing he has going for him is the idea that he has money stashed. When you are in prison the idea you may have access to money can be very dangerous to you.

Here is an interesting book that would be good for him to read.

He's been doing this to people for years. It's one of the oldest cons out there for companies that process credit cards. It's the basic "Oh, your credit card got charged twice or another month? we're so sorry we will refund this right away" and they refund it. The rub is that 10-20% of people don't even check their statements or just pay the monthly bill without even thinking about it and it was an even higher percentage during the late 90's/early 2000's and before. Do this over millions of dollars worth of transactions, and well, you do the math.

Here's another from the KT archives.....

But why just him, not all the other fiction-as-truth writers, liars, and cons, too? Look at all the b/s coming out of pool players' mouths, for instance. Should CTE be a jailing offense if some lost money playing with that system? IF it is fiction, lies, and cons, why not?

When a judge tells an author to not write, that rings alarm bells for me.
